Ms. Lara ENGL.0307.304 5 November 2011 Why school uniforms are must? Many people debate whether students should wear school uniforms or not. Uniforms have helped to develop many children socially into the people they are today. Uniforms have their own subculture and are an excellent idea. Uniforms help students in school academically and socially.
With a uniform policy, there would be no pressure to buy expensive, “in” clothing. Uniforms are more affordable to families. After the first time of buying uniforms, they can be washed frequently. There is no need in buying extravagant clothing because the “popular kids” are wearing it. Another advantage is academic performance.
One of the most popular debates amongst public schools today is whether or not students should be required to wear uniforms. While many schools have already established a policy mandating school uniforms, there are still many more schools who have not decided yet. Some say a mandatory uniform policy in public schools encourages more concentration on learning, while others say it hinders the creativity and individuality in students. However, uniforms can benefit students by creating an environment in which the students are able to focus solely on furthering their education. Students in grades kindergarten through twelve should be required to wear uniforms because it creates school unity, is safer, and it helps students develop a higher self-esteem.
Some schools provide programs where kids can receive the uniforms at little or no cost. They’re more affordable than regular clothing. Parents can save a lot of money. In conclusion, school uniforms provide for a better learning environment and that's why we go to school; TO learn, Not just to see who’s wearing the new hottest clothes or not. Those are material things that will get you nowhere in life, the only thing that make you a somebody is an education and and a good job.
Implementing School Uniforms Implementing school uniforms will increase academic performance and reduce behavioral problems. While this is a temporary solution to the permanent problem of getting students to strive for achievement, the implementation of school uniform policies, especially at this pivotal point in time in our countries future, is one way we could help young people to realize their potential thru improving the over all quality of education in our country. While students and parents face many daily struggles that distract them from more important things, financial issues can be sited as one of the biggest struggles facing families and individuals these days. School uniforms provide a low cost alternative to expensive designer clothing. Students whose parents can’t afford expensive clothing can be spared the harsh words and jeers from their peers, allowing them to blend in instead of being singled out as poverty stricken or less fortunate then others, thus giving all the students the outward appearance of equals.
Sociological studies show that school uniforms help to improve academic performance. People are apt to change their action depending on what they are wearing. Since school uniforms set a serious atomosphere in the classroom by removing distractions, students may achieve their goals easier. Also, teens are sensitive to their appearance. According to some parents, their children waste as much as an hour in front of the mirror getting ready for school.
Dress Codes in Schools Kelly Mennillo Com/220 Due: 4/22/12 Kelly Munoz Some people believe that our schools should require their students to adapt to a dress code to improve student behavior, enhance students’ self-confidence, and reduce differences among socioeconomic levels. Others may say that policies enforcing dress codes, or requiring school uniforms violate students’ First Amendment rights, and suppress individuality. The argument over school dress codes and school-uniform policies continue to rage in the meeting rooms, administrative officers, and classrooms of public schools throughout the country. School officials place dress code policies so there will be orderly dressing amongst the students’. Dress codes are important, but they are troublesome at the same time.
Public Schools Requiring Students to Wear Uniform Danika Washington English Composition2 (AXE1433k) Kari Lamanno 09/16/2014 With many public schools requesting students to wear uniforms, I feel this is a good idea because they will help safe money; they will help them be identified, and with security purposes, uniforms will also help students focus on the more important things school has to offer. I personally believe that schools requesting students to wear uniforms are a start to improving the school systems. Although, I am not saying that uniforms will solve all problems but I feel they will allow the students to feel comfortable within their surroundings which will help them focus on the more important things at school. Saving money is always a great thing; purchasing uniforms are much easier and less expensive than going to a mall or department store looking for designer or the most popular clothing. Wearing uniforms to school will allow students the ability to focus on what is going on within the classroom instead being involved in small talk about what another person is wearing.
It also reduces distractions in schools. Uniforms supply a sense of security as well. It is easy to recognize people that should not be on campus when everyone is dressed similarly and that one person is not. Another thing that is a benefit of wearing uniforms is saving time in the mornings. You always know what you're going to wear, therefore you never have to waste time picking out your clothes.
This is important because no matter how the children are – rich or poor; healthy or unhealthy; fashionable or non-fashionable – we will all fit in together, we will be less distracted from our school work towards our fashionable clothes and we will stress less about what to choose to wear to school. To begin with, school uniforms will help us as students to all fit or blend in together. If we do not have any school uniforms, we will have the choice of what we wear to school. If someone is rich and another is poor, it most likely that the rich person will wear rich clothes and the poor person will wear poor clothes. As a result of this, the rich person might be the most popular person who is wanted by everyone, while the poor person is bullied, made fun of and left out by everyone.
