MaCoHigh Instructor McCauley ENC 1101 February 27, 2012 Should Uniforms Be Worn In Public Schools? Many parents argue about whether or not uniforms is a good fit for their children to wear to a public school. Uniforms are a good fit for a public school just as we as it is for a private school. If kids were enforced to wear uniforms to school it could solve a lot of issues: Kids won't be picking at other kids because of their clothes, staffs do not have to worry about whether or not the student outfit is inappropriate or not, and students could help promote themselves for future workplaces. Often students are being picked on at school because of the clothing that they are wearing.
Why Uniforms Should Be Mandated For as long as I can remember, I have always worn uniforms to school. Growing up I never had a problem with wearing uniforms; I actually liked them. A lot of people may be against school uniforms, but I am for it. School uniforms should be mandated in all public schools because it prevents bullying, it saves time, and it saves money. First, mandating uniforms in public schools can prevent kids from getting bullied.
Uniforms show unique fashion, help financially, and improve social skills. Many people argue that wearing a uniform; will not show the creative side of their children. There are many different ways of showing the stylish side while wearing a uniform. Many public and private schools today show students wearing low-cut jeans, revealing cleavage, or baggy pants. Even wearing a uniform a student can accessorize without revealing too much skin.
Generally schools require students to wear uniforms for the desire to increase the students’ academic levels. Many critics rebuttal that uniforms “infringe on student’s First Amendment right of free expression” (Kelly). Although the use of uniforms might take away some of a student’s freedom of picking what new outfit to wear every morning, to exercise the use of uniforms in a school environment gives the students more time to focus on their homework after school rather than
A uniform acts as a social leveler, under which all students are equal. In institutions without uniforms students are often competitive and worry about their appearance and the clothes they should wear. Pupils without expensive clothes may be bullied, or stigmatized as being from poor backgrounds. For these reasons many parents prefer uniforms as they save them money on buying clothes for school wear. But uniforms have also practical benefits when students are outside the school building.
Marvin Workman Dress Code are necessary in promoting learning and can help curb school related violence. Dress codes in schools are controversial; some people agree with school uniforms, others prefer a tone down look due to the gang violence that can be associated with some of the clothing. Some people disagree with a dress code because of the added expense on parents and not agreeing with, “what you wear” having a negative effect on learning. As a parent with kids in schools and have been to public schools, I’m a firm believer that either toned down, or uniform look is essential for improving education and decreasing school violence. Student fashion plays a major role in expressing oneself and feeling comfortable.
Many public school systems across the country are instituting school uniforms in an effort to improve overall school performance and to reduce negative behavior. The use of school uniforms is a topic of hot debate among parents and school administrators. Some argue the benefits of school uniforms, while others believe that the downsides are far more numerous. While you probably cannot influence what your school has already decided, you may have a voice on the issue of school uniforms in PTA meetings. School uniforms are a great way to maintain the level of social equality amongst the students of public schools.
Enforcing Dress Code Are you tired of being mistreated because of your appearance? Uniforms will help you solve this problem. Wearing uniform helps students pay more attention in school because they’re spending less time thinking about who looks better. Parents are saving money by not buying expensive designer clothes. Students who wear expensive clothing alienate those students who are less fortunate and cannot afford to.
However, school uniforms would reduce this problem. Even, parents and teachers agree that students don’t have the pressure anymore about what they are wearing, because they all have the same outfit. They don’t have to worry about how to dress up, so they are more focused and prepared for school. Secondly, wearing school uniforms build school spirit and inspire a sense of belonging. School uniforms promote positive attitudes, and boost students self esteem so they can focus more on their school work.
There are some high schools in Ontario where uniforms are to be worn every day to school but many do not require them at all. Uniforms are great for many different reasons. Therefore, they should be mandatory in all high schools throughout Ontario. Uniforms will help students feel more equal to one another, the dress-codes would not be a huge problem as they currently are in many schools and families would spend less money throughout the school year on their children. First of all, students would greatly feel equal to one another if they all wore uniforms to school.
