Differences and similarities between levels High School and college are alike in numerous ways, but they are also very different. They are both educational institutions which help people achieve greater intelligence but different in certain factors. High school is mandatory and free if you attend a public school, otherwise it will cost you while college is both voluntary and expensive. In high school, students are guided for responsibilities they have and students are corrected if they are out of line. Freedom is the main difference between high school and college but, classes, teachers, social aspects and costs are the major ways that college differs from high school.
For example, while in high school good homework grades are able to raise your overall grade if you did not do well on tests, in college the grades in tests and major papers (essays, projects, and researches) are the most important things that provide most of the course grade. Also, in high school if someone has received the grade of D and higher then they are able to pass the course but in college someone can graduate only if their average is same or above their departmental standard. Second, there are many differences in classes between these two institutions. Although in high school for students listening is sometimes more than enough however in college students should review class notes and text material regularly and ask for information from professor teaching assistance tutoring services and even from other students. Additionally, students in high school are provided with textbooks for free, whereas in college students need to buy textbooks and class materials.
For example, many of us weren’t really use to studying during high school, mainly because it was so unchallenging. But through college you are going to have to make some changes in your life. You are going to take those classes that require memorizing long formulas and theories, and that will take more of your time. During the process of college you are going to have to learn how to take care of yourself regardless of your parent’s being there for you or not. Responsibility will play a big role during this time of your life.
When first arriving to college, students don’t have the mandatory push that parents and teachers used to give. We are now on our own and for those that lack survival skills, it can be detrimental. For example, there are a lot of things that students don’t know how to do their selves. This can include washing clothes, cooking food, handling money and even time management skills. Without these skills, students can become overwhelmed and retain poor grades in their classes.

In order to achieve this, a person must graduate high school and college. Many people seem to think life as a high school student and a college student are very similar, but to me they have many differences. When I graduated high school, I decided that I would go to college and I became very aware of not only the differences, but the similarities as well. A couple of the things I noticed were the differences in the scheduling and rules and attitudes, responsibility on my part, and the work load.
Bill Nye says that most students are distracted by the opposite sex because they are worried about looking good and making a good first impression on the opposite sex. This could be right for two students out of every twenty but then those students are also not doing what they wanted to be doing at college; getting a good education so they can get a better job. Some teachers have a strict no cell phone policy. There are many reasons for this; one of them is teachers believe that cell phones are a major distraction during class. They believe there is a time for technology and while they are lecturing is not one of those times. Another con is not all students can afford a cell phone. It would be unfair for teachers to use cell phones most of the time because not all students have that ability.
A large concern to some students may have when considering attending college online is the fact that it may be harder to get personal help and learn the material through your professor. Without having any physical interaction with your professor, some hands on learners may struggle more than the students who learn well from reading the material on their own. The professor in online schools can still be very helpful; the students just have to take the initiative to ask for help when they need it. Though academic requirements and student life vary depending on the college you attend, there are basic differences that apply in almost every case. The main differences that students have acknowledged are self-discipline, teaching methods, and structure. The self-discipline required to be a successful college student is at a much higher level than the self-discipline of a high school student. Professors in college put in effort to instruct students as best they can. The realization is that it is up to the student to put in the work and have the desire to educate them-selves.
Both play an important role in making a person into a talented individual and a member of a society. High school students know that there are differences between high school and college, but sometimes what they think is not how it is. High School can be considered as a continuation of elementary and middle school where students learn trigonometry, physics, American history, etc. By law, it is necessary and they are forced to attend High School. There are rules and regulations which students cannot break, because there will be punishments for their actions.
