The article is mainly about if there any contradiction between luxury and eco-friendliness. The author points out that eco-friendliness can consist with luxury by giving some real examples. The author believes that luxury can be blended with environmentally-responsible attitudes and actions1. I agree the point of view of the author generally. Luxury is not representing waste and exceed, but a feeling of gorgeous and enjoyable to customers. Great services, magnificent decoration and high quality facilities help to provide the feeling of luxury. Undeniably, some eco-friendliness actions will lower the level of luxury of hotels. Lowering down the temperature of the lobby, reducing the frequency of refilling the bath amenities, encouraging customers turn off the air-conditioners and lights are some examples may reduce the level of luxury of hotels. Thus, I admit that there are some contradictions between luxury and eco-friendliness. However, there are still many other ways to be eco-friendliness. For instance, using energy management such as energy-efficiency light bulbs, solid and water management such as reducing kitchen waste and using biodegradable cleaning products are the examples2. In Hong Kong, Langham Hotel is a good demonstration. It introduces a new job which is green-collar manager. Green-collar manager responds to plan some creative ‘green’ events. Customers are encourages to join the event, just like playing ‘green’ games together3. This help to promote the eco-awareness. All of them can help to save a lot of energy and resources. Besides, they will not lower the level of luxury of hotels. They even can increase the level of luxury. In fact, more luxury the hotel is, more eco-friendliness actions is needed4.
