Causes to Flunk Out College It is an irony of genera – just about every high school kid has a vision of attending to a college - an edifying society of higher education from where a student can walk on the path of realization. But, as soon as that dream is comprehended, the idealistic student gives up mortifying the aim underneath his or her feet by dropping out. In most of the time, college students discontinue to appear in the college before the end of their freshmen year. This is the main cause of falling down the percentage rate from 84.6 %( High School Graduates) to 27.2 % (Bachelor Degree Graduates). Financial expenses, the lack of readiness responsibility and choosing the wrong major are some specific reasons for college students to flunk out the college.
This building is a historical landmark of Queens. If this school were to shut down, the students would be missing so much educational excellence from the teachers. It wouldn’t make any sense to close the school and split each floor into new schools when it’s the budget cuts that are being deducted every school year. Bryant high school has so many academic departments and athletic sports to offer. It would be a shame to let these opportunities for the students to lessen.
“Bullying is a big problem that effects millions of students, and it has everyone worried, not just the kids on it’s receiving end” (Lyness 1). Bullying does not just affect kids, but the parents too. It affects the parents because a lot of their children begin to be afraid attending school. In the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda was affected by being bullied lead her to think about suicide, scared of coming to school, and victims like Melinda begin to not care about school and fail. Melinda was affected by being bullied and led to many things and one of them is thinking about suicide.
“The Case Against College Education” Thesis: College is not for everyone and it is absurd that society puts so much pressure on attending it. SR# 1: We are pushing students into college who are not meant for it. -40% of students who enrolled in college drop out. SR# 2: Benefits of putting more people in college are oversold. -the college wage premium is an illusion.
When the time came to collect the final data, it was revealed that stuttering was a learnt behavior. By doing this study, many people were affected. The University of Iowa is being sued by the remaining orphans that lived due to the mental damage that Wendell put them in. Wendell’s study made some of the children to never speak again or continuously think about how society will perceive their speaking
Early education programs such as, the Head Start program was on top of the list for budget cuts. That would affect the kick start to learning that has been around for generations of young learners to take advantage of. Most American families are in favor of having an early learning program in their community. Studies show that kids the kids that participate in an early learning program develop a greater aptitude for learning and are accepted to better universities. Seems like the GOP does not understand that even though the average family can’t afford to send their kids to a top tier university does not mean they do not want to take advantage of early learning.
Today I want to discuss the issue of Hispanic High school dropouts which is a big concern here in Houston and the USA. In Houston, Hispanics are dropping out of school at an alarming rate and only a small group is going to college. This creates a discouraging problem for a city that is 40% percent Hispanic and growing. The reason for high dropout rate for the Houston Hispanics varies; it can include struggling to learn English, the need to work and help out the family to pay bills, coping with unplanned pregnancies and so on. The solutions are just as complex as the problem itself.
According to the article, “Worldwide, adolescent girls are particularly unable to protect themselves against unwanted, unsafe sexual encounters, unwanted pregnancy, disease, and violence for many reasons. Educational is a limited opportunity, and, in turn, limits economic and professional opportunities” p. 102. In national plan, statistic proves girls from ages 16-24 years are parts of vulnerable population. Because they are sexually assault, their health issues as teenage mothers is at very higher risk for premature, low birth weight, and death. Their educational opportunity decreases, and the drop out of school is enormous because they are not encourage them as much as boys.
Welsh’s article discusses the difference between American students and Asian students. The Asian students identified that their biggest factor behind academic success was “studying hard”. I believe that many American students have lost their internal drive and motivation to study hard, including myself, with technology now and it being so easy to cheat it becomes almost unnecessary. Insufficient teaching is not the major factor to blame nor is poor study skills or the lack of there of. I believe that the problem behind American students not studying is solely due to the lack of determination to study and excel in schoolwork.
Again, this is all base on the ability of the instructor. If the instructor is willing to understand and give their ability to help students improve their lack of capability. With this being said students can lose the focus on learning. This comes with the resistance to learn. With showing the student the data, some students may feel that they are lacking the confidence level or the digital literacy skill that they may feel out of place.
