Children, young people and adults need us to communicate what is expected of them so they learn the boundaries of professional relationships and children can learn to communicate effectively themselves. Understanding boundaries is paramount. Teaching assistants need to be friendly but firm and know the limits of each to avoid disagreements with children and adults. 1.2 Explain the principles of relationship building with children, young people and adults Being a teaching assistant involves working closely with individuals and groups of children, my relationship with children must be professional.

It is important to adapt communication to include all children. In my class the children are always greeted with a smile, good morning and how are you today. Some of the children have news to tell you. I get down to their level and have eye contact and listen to what they have to say.
Effective communication is vital when developing positive relationships with children young people and adults. Some people really struggle with their learning or they may have confidence issues, these issues may stop them from communicating freely. Treating them in a calm, friendly, positive, and praising manner could mean the difference between them trusting me and closing down completely and giving up. It is important to have a positive relationship with children and young adults because if they feel comfortable and secure with the adult and their setting whether it is a childminder, a nursery or a school they will separate more easily from their parent or carer. If they feel emotionally secure they are more likely to participate in the play and learning activities.

Outcome 2 1. Positive relationships with people involved with the care of children is very important because it effects the child’s sense of security in school. This includes the staff between themselves, staff with managers/supervisors/head teacher etc., staff with visitors/inspectors and most important staff with the parents/carers. If the relationship of the staff one to another would include internal politics and power struggles, the children in the setting would feel it and feel insucure. The staff has to work together as a team and support each other.
Identify and know about any codes of practice relevant to your work. A code of practice gives helpful guidance and lays down the standards expected to support good practice. a) Think of a particular situation when you were able to treat children, young people, their families and their care crs with respect. I was able to go on supervised contact with a young person whereby they went to visit their parents at their family home. I was able to treat both the young person and their parents with respect by ensuring that I allowed for them both to have time to talk amongst themselves rather than me involving myself entirely in their conversation.
Establish good relationships with children, acting as good role and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs. Encourage and promote self-esteem and independence. Provide feedback to children in relation to progress and achievement. SUPPORT FOR THE TEACHER Assist with the planning of learning activities under the direction and guidance of the class teacher. It is important to be friendly and be liked by the child/young person; however you must also be able to earn the respect of the child so they respond to you when you ask them to perform set tasks. It is beneficial at the beginning of the relationship to discuss with the child/young person what each of you wishes to achieve from the relationship. It is also helpful to make time to listen carefully to the child/ young person so you have a strong understanding of what is important to them. 1.2 When dealing with children, you need to be aware of, and take account of, their age.

Being a teaching assistant ,you have to model yourself in a best possible way to communicate with children as they learn and absorb your methods of communication. In order to develop and maintain positive relationships with children ,I have to communicate politely and clearly so that they can understand me. By using simple vocabulary and positive body language I can get their attention more easily and my friendly approach would make me trustworthy for them and they can discuss their problems or share their ideas with me. For example,in my placement,my friendly and polite attitude towards reception children makes it easy for them to bring their complaints to me;if they are hurt or hit by somebody.
In this case, teacher should always be prepared, has consistently and clear rules, try her best to create a good relationship with her students. Moreover, keeping learners busy and interested, as well as avoiding frustration due to hard lessons, help to minimize disruption. Verbal Cues: Some misbehavior just needs the use of non-verbal cues by the teacher to avoid disruption. Using eye contact with a misbehaving learner may be enough to stop them engaging in an unwanted behavior. Moving closer to a student may also be effective.
