Effective communication is required for children and young people to encourage positive behaviour and K.Beith states that practitioners will communicate “to give instructions to children so that they understand what is required of them in routines and activities, such as emergency practices and outings” (Beith.K et al,Pg.3, Level 2 certificate for the Children and young people’s workforce, 2010, Heinemann, Harlow) Early years practitioners communicate regularly with parents to build relationships and to share information. Communication between parents and practitioners can help the setting provide adequate care and provision for their children. Early years practitioners also communicate with parents to give them information about the setting
1.2. Explain the principles of relationship building with children, young people and adults. Children and young people need to feel safe and valued in an educational environment. The government document Every Child Matters: Change for children 2004 is an important document to read which would benefit anyone working with children. To work and build on positive relationships with children there has to be a good understanding of putting the pupils needs first.
Assessment criteria 3.2 Social organisations and relationships within the class room are again another great learning tool. If you group children together and work with them on tasks within the curriculum, they will start to develop a strong learning relationship. You could see that the group dynamics will often change on particular tasks, where a more confident child on this task will take lead over a more confident child on another task. If the children see the adults within the class react well and interact with other children, they will get a better response from them. Children are put into groups in order to give them the best learning potential and for their learning to be appropriate for their age and level of understanding.
Developing positive relationships with colleagues allows all involved in the child's and young persons learning to work together in sharing information and highlight and resolve any potential issues that may have an impact on their behaviour, emotional or social well being. Similarly, building positive relationships with the child's or young persons parents to carers will allow them to work together with the setting to, again, highlight any concerns they may have such as family issues. The parents to carers must be secure in the knowledge that any such shared information will be treated with
It is important that the teacher appreciate any input from their students, whether the answer is correct or not. This openness will instil confidence and motivation from within the group and help their learning experience. To create a positive learning environment, with a clear structure, a teacher needs to have the ability to plan their lectures or sessions effectively. With clear goals and aims which match up with the curriculum. These lessons need to be creative, incorporate activities and techniques that will engage the learner.
TDA 2.3 Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults In my assessment I will be looking at communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults in schools as well as identifying and describing the key points linked to this topic. 1.1 Describe how to establish respectful, professional relationships with children and young people When building relationships with children and young people, it is vital that you adapt your behaviour and communication accordingly. You need to be able to make yourself approachable, as some children can find it difficult to connect with adults. This is why demonstrating effective communication skill can be just as important as offering support. Establishing ground rules and mutual respect at the start of any relationship when working with children is vital, this will be the foundation to successfully interacting with all children regard less of their age, culture and abilities.
Communication is vital in building that positive relationship needed for trust and respect, something that is very much needed when working with children, young adults and their parents. It is also important that we model positive and effective communication skills when we are asking pupils to think about how themselves are communicating. If we do not communicate effectively how we expect young adults and children the message is mixed and they find it hard to understand what is acceptable and how we should communicate with each other. 1.2 As Teaching Assistants we need to build effective relationships in order to do our job well. there are several generic principles that underpin building a strong relationship with children, young people and adults: Effective communication - one of the most important aspects of building a relationship is finding a way to communicate effectively.
We need to check what we are saying and how we say things in moments of excitement or stress, so that the children understand our expectations and the boundaries of what is acceptable. Therefore it is important for us as adults and parents to demonstrate and model positive and effective communication skills in our dealings with others. 1.2. For us to communicate effectively, we need to be comfortable in one another’s company. This is called relationship building.
I would like to support this classroom in reference of two theories, Erikson and Reggio Emilia. I saw how successfully the children developed trust how they expressed their safety and security. The teachers were consistent and emotionally available. Erikson’s believed children can sense one-hundred percent trust or one-hundred percent doubt. (Erikson) Another, amazing theory that I can compare this classroom and teachers, their practice and professionalism, children are motivated to learn on what they are interested on, the teacher nurtures that ability so that the children grow and learn.
Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults in all aspects of life and at any age whether it would be with relatives, friends, neighbours, colleagues or even total strangers. Also effective language skills are essential for children to access the curriculum. In the classroom, spoken language is the main way that teachers teach and children learn. Therefore if the skill of communicating in an effective manner isn’t learned or grasped at an early age then it could lead to various difficulties in terms of interacting with other people. In my experience, good communication is also important when clear expectations and boundaries are established and point made as plainly and as simply as possible.
