ICELT Supervised and Assessed Teaching No. 1 Post-lesson reflection |Candidate’s name: |MELINA SAN MIGUEL GARCÍA | |Candidate’s number: |011 | Lesson Planning One of the problems I have to cope with when planning a class is that I am not able to focus on the exercises that are really important to the language development of my students. If I had to teach this lesson again, first of all I would eliminate the exercises on stages seven to ten (See Lesson Plan), as it would have been impossible to work on them within the class time limit. In the second place, I would have given more time on consolidating the vocabulary words on stage 4 (See Lesson Plan) as there were a lot of doubts from the students with the meanings of some words. In terms of its effectiveness, the lesson plan was quite useful until the third stage (See Lesson Plan). The activities were well sequenced, as there was an exercise which activated the students’ prior knowledge on the topic and then the brainstorming stage was highly participative. However, when we reached the vocabulary review, which I mistakenly thought was an “easy” set of vocabulary words, a lot of doubts emerged and the exercise and the examples given were not enough to banish them. Consequently, the changes to the lesson plan would be: instead of being a vocabulary review, it would be a vocabulary introduction. I would design follow-up activities to give more practice to the students and clarify any doubts they have. I would use exercise 5 (See Lesson Plan) to consolidate the meaning of the vocabulary words. I would use exercise 6 (See Lesson Plan) to give students practice on the pronunciation of the words and
