Be able to address the range of communication requirements in own role 1.2 Explain how to support effective communication within own job role Within my job role as a Deputy Manager of a residential care home it is important to have good communication skills to develop positive relationships and share information with people using services. This will include clients, client’s families, colleagues, social worker, GP’s, District Nurses and other Health Care Professionals and so on. Within my job role I use several different forms of communication. I would use my interpersonal skills to enable me to interact with another person, allowing me to communicate successfully with them. Like my verbal communication skills, what I say and how I say it. My non-verbal communication skills, what I communicate without words, like my body language. My listening skills, how I interpret both the verbal and non-verbal messages I receive. My negotiation skills, to find a mutually agreeable outcome with others. My problem solving skills, to identify, define and solve problems working with others. My decision making skills, exploring and analysing options and make sound decisions. My assertiveness skills, to communicate my values, ideas, beliefs, opinions, needs and wants freely. Examples of my daily routine would be: One to one communication, talking to a client in private, talking to a GP or District Nurse in relation to a client. Talking to my colleague on a one to one. Or talking to my manager on a one to one in relation to a client or staff member. Or telephone conversations to either a GP, District Nurse or other health care professionals. Talking to other colleagues in a group / meeting to solve a problem, find a joint agreed solution. In these situation I would use my interpersonal skills.
