SELF REFLECTION The Johari Window is one of the most significant theories that I have learned in the last 12 weeks. This theory provides a clear vision of people relationship with their self and others. It helps people train self-awareness, personal and development as well as build interpersonal relationships. The Johari Window has four areas, which are Open Area, Hidden Area, Blind Area and Unknown Area. This concept also describes an important process in order to enhance emotional intelligence by improving the ability to monitor one’s own and others’ emotions. For me, the most important experience was worked on assignment two with multicultural group members. Initially, I thought that it would be very difficult for me to work with them because I am not familiar with their cultures. Moreover, since we came from different countries, we also have different languages. Therefore, these conditions made me afraid if we cannot reach an agreement in completing our task. Subsequently, after we did our assignment and worked together as a team, I realized that the most important consideration in working with multicultural group is respected. This might be because of individuals tending to be required working in-group where another members can respect their culture and potential. This is similar to The Johari Window concept because it also describes that by increasing ‘Open Area’, team members can be more trustworthy and hence they can be more respect each other. This model also explains that people should learn about background that they come in contact with in order to achieve group objectives. Having learned The Johari Window model and worked in multi-cultural group, I now realize that respect to others culture can make them become more comfortable with me, thus, they will increase their ‘Open Area’ and let me know about them more deeply.
