Communication skills and interpersonal skills By Ceri-Ann Jones. In this piece of work I will describe the communication and interpersonal skills that I have used whilst taking part in a HIV workshop in two different schools in my area. In this workshop my group and I had to teach two groups of 10 about HIV,STI's and AIDs. During our time in the workshop we taught groups of Year 10 pupils and gave them activities which were HIV based and hoping to improve their knowledge by doing this. For example; By doing a quiz based on the topic, a condom demonstration and two different card tasks (agree or disagree on various sexual related scenarios and putting cards out using a condom in the correct order). By doing these various tasks it would hopefully improve their knowledge on the subject. I will now go through each communication and interpersonal skill I used by participating in the workshop. I will also evaluate myself and each group on why and when we may have used the skills. Communication skills For part of this task It was important for me to use various communication skills. This was because we needed to make sure that the information was received clearly by those within the group. In order for us to make sure that all members of our group has understood the information clearly. I should use these skills: - Listening - Eye contact - Tone of voice - Working with others - Gestures - Posture - Formal communication By using these skills the workshop will become more effective for example: using formal communication will allow us to receive more respect from the members of the group. Using listening skills was very important as we were in a large group and speaking over each other would have caused complications and we wouldn't have been able to pass the information required.
