I am going to explore the core conditions that Carl Rogers uses in his theory of person centred counselling. There are three core conditions: congruence, empathic understanding and unconditional positive regard. These conditions are what Carl Rogers believed are the skills a counsellor needs in order to be able to support the client in their process of healing themselves. I am then going to use my own experiences to discuss why I feel that only using the person technique, for certain clients, may not be sufficient to make the progress they require on an emotional level. On the other hand I am going to discuss how learning the person centred approach has affected my personal and work life in a positive way.
By requiring students to take a break from technology and lend a helping hand, they become better people because the student then realizes the importance of human interaction and how just a simple smile can brighten someone’s day. In this aspect, future participation is prominent. Stepping outside a comfort zone plays a tremendous role on finding one’s specific interests and true personality. Mandatory community service exposes students to certain experiences in which the student may discover a hidden talent or passion for. Often, students who perform community service in order to graduate consider it a chore, however that is not the case for John Prueter.

The development of one’s personality is the focus of his theory. The goal of his person-centered theory was to achieve change in one’s personality on not only the surface but on a deeper level (Farber, 2007). The three core conditions Rogers felt were necessary to achieve change were empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness. According to Rogers’s, his hypothesis for person-centered theory was “when a therapist demonstrates the ‘core conditions’ of unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding, and congruence and when the client perceives these at least to a minimal degree, then psychotherapeutic personality change and its positive correlates are inevitable (Kirschenbaum & Jourdan, 2005, p. 41).” This theory was chosen in analyzing the personality development of Antwone Fisher because it is this learner’s opinion that when working with traumatized individuals, especially those abused in childhood, empathy is the key to helping them. Person-centered theory and Rogers’s core conditions spoke to this learner whose long-term goal is to work with children who have been traumatized and suffer from disrupted attachment patterns.

He came up with the ABCDE model which stands for: A the activating event, B which is the irrational belief e.g. I must be liked, C the unproductive consequence, D which stands for disputing the belief in which there are 3 kinds: logical disputing e.g. does this way of thinking make sense?, empirical disputing e.g. where is proof that this belief is accurate?
We would be in a better standing position if we can take advantage of the knowledge how our psychological immune system works, identify what kind of happiness we want to experience, and recognize that we cannot be always happy. Stress is defined as “the process by which we perceive and respond to certain events, called stressors, that we praise as threatening or challenging” (Myers, 2012, page 275). Stress is about an individual or is personal and is affected by the choices the person makes as an individual. The stress that is bad for you deprives you the ability to experience joy, happiness, enjoy life and who you are. That is why it is very important to recognize symptoms of stress and identify ways to bring the stress under control. The good stress is the kind that will help keep you motivated to be productive and be able to achieve the goals we set for ourselves.
Transactional Analysis and Communication Transactional analysis or TA is a branch of psychotherapy developed by Eric Berne. His definition of it is “a theory of personality and a systematic psychotherapy for personal growth and change”. Knowing about TA can be very useful for improving our communication skills. TA is about how people are structured psychologically and is both a theory of communication and a theory of child development. Berne’s model is a three part ego-state model.
The paper will show both positive and negative results that relate to the author's own insights and individualization. This paper will also discuss the criticisms of this theory and the individuals need for self-actualization. Along with this discussion will be a brief description of two of the influential founders of this theory. Humanistic theory is a theory of its own caliber and has raised the standard in psychoanalysis and behaviorism while focusing more realistically on human behavior. Humanistic psychology is young compared to the age of other approaches and theories, but very different in the basis that the approach focuses on individual control and free will or choices and steers away from the ideas that all human behavior is based around pleasure.
Some of those reasons were because sports are fun and competitive, because our friends played or because of the status that we gained from playing these sports. Most of us did not realize the intangibles that we would gain from playing sports and these traits would build self esteem. Things such as confidence, responsibility, and sociability are intangibles that cannot be taught but can be instilled by playing and experiencing sports at a young age. When children begin playing sports with 2 their peers they are put into situations where they begin to compete against one another, they begin to socialize, build cohesion and become a team. When a child learns to become a team player they build confidence in his/her ability execute their part.
