RESEARCH ESSAY PAPER ARE ORGANIC FOODS A HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE OR JUST ANOTHER FAD? “ORGANIC FOODS MAY BE JUST ANOTHER TREND, SINCE THERE IS NO SOUND SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE FOR ORGANIC FOODS BEING MORE NUTRITIOUS THAN CONVENTIONAL FOODS” DISCUSS “ORGANIC PARADISE” IS IT WORTH IT? Webster’s online dictionary defines the word “organic” as relating to, or derived from living organisms that is organic evolution, secondly relating to, yielding, or involving the use of food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without an attempt to employ the use of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides, which results to organic farming and hence the final produce is called organic products. On the other hand let us define conventionally grown, which is basically accepted, used, or practiced by most people, following or agreeing with established form, custom, or rules. Understanding food may never have been so bewildering as it is today. On the one hand there is the world's food supply, currently in a state of shock. Drought, underproduction, and high petroleum and transport costs are spiking prices and sinking supplies. Then there is the local grocery store. Independent of the price fluctuations, consumers are increasingly having trouble figuring out what, exactly, they're eating. Local doesn't necessarily mean "local." "Organic" doesn't necessarily mean hormone-free and that the animals or livestock won't be penned-in. (Andrew Chung, Toronto star, April 27th 2008.)
