Most people have not fired or owned a gun, feel the need to own one for protection. When you have one in the house you need to know how to keep it safe. When I was a child my brothers and I used guns, but were never taught how to keep them safe. How safe are we really? We are divided on the advantages and disadvantages of having guns to protect us at home.
This fear fuels the need to be armed, which hasn't changed in many years. Even though Obama and a part of the American government is trying to reduce the gun laws extent, and prevent more incidents, as school shootings. It is still happening. Because, as the gun law is at the moment, there are very few precautions, which can stop such incidents, metal detectors will not last in the
It also doesn’t make sense to blame an inanimate object rather than the individual behind it and the reasons why gun violence occurs. A gun is a tool, not unlike a car or knife. When a law-abiding citizen makes the decision to purchase a gun, it is usually for the purpose of self-defense. It evens the playing field between a victim and a potentially dangerous criminal. In the story “They Each Had a Gun,” Hannah LaMarca was robbed and assaulted with no way to defend herself.
The possibility of being able to wield the gun at a time of attack, may or may not overcome the risk of owning one in the first place. The right to own a gun to defend one’s self, or family, may not outweigh the risk The mass murders committed in the past few years, have been in very public areas, where one does not normally carry a weapon, for self-defense or otherwise. Therein defeats the main purpose of owning one. The school shootings, such as one of the most recent, Sandy Hook Elementary School puts the second most blame, on the fact that such an unstable person was able to purchase not only multiple, but also such powerful weapons, legally(Gun Control, 2013). There will never be a time that a civilian will need the use of an automatic weapon.
I feel some crimes that have taken place in this country could have been stopped or lessened to a degree with a concealed firearm. The government can not ensure the 100 percent safety and wellbeing of all its citizens. For example the school shootings and workplace instances etc that happened in this country. But if there were more responsible law abiding people that had a concealed weapon on them some of these tragedies could have been avoided or at least minimized the damage that those criminals caused saving the lives of others is always a good thing. Criminals are not known for following the rules so all law abiding citizens have the right to defend themselves by any means needed.
Haydn Collyer Topic: Gun Control Writing 122 9/25/12 The topic of gun control is a highly disputed one. I believe that America has more important matters to attend to rather than getting into a dispute over something that has been argued since its creation, firearms. To the average American a “gun” is something that is only made for killing and is only found in the hands of villains, criminals and law enforcement/military. I am here to tell you that that is not the case at all. Millions of honest Americans own guns.
He had to come up with a plan to satisfy the House of Representatives and Congress. Some pros for gun control would be that it might bring the number of accidental shootings down. An example would be that a household would not have a lot of guns just sitting around, and the little children could not just shoot it by accident. Also, depending on what guns they would rule out, the gangs would not be able to get a hold of certain guns as easily. I am not saying they would not get them, but it would be more difficult to find them.
This is where I agree with Ivin. The regulations on firearms should be more strict and diffently more training is needed before ownership. These are changes that I believe is just common sense to the safety of families. The terrible truth is that the guns that are being used in most of these crimes are gotten illegally anyway. What use would it be to make new laws when a person can get a handgun on the streets for fifty bucks
They should not be able to take away our rights that were given to us long ago. The people of the United States of America do not like the government trying to pass this law. People use guns for self-defense and hunting. People are standing up for their rights and showing the government that they can’t walk on us. This gun control is making ammunition prices raise.
That’s why I think it would only reduce gun violence, not make it go away completely. Also if they the government did take away all the guns in the U.S I think it would be a more brutal way for someone to die, and what I mean by that is, it’s really easy to have a gun and shoot somebody, but what if there’s a person trying to stab you or choke you with a chain or something, I would hope you would at least try to fight back and not go down so easy like you would if a person had a gun because there’s not much you can do when someone is pointing a gun at you. The situation just becomes a big fight and you would probably die very brutally. Also I think about what it would do to the women of this country. Many
