Problem Statement for Kudler Fine Foods The purpose of this paper is to identify various problems within Kudler Fine Food (KFF), distinguish the severity of the issues relating to the problems and address a solution to reach the company’s goals. By reading and reviewing KFF’s strategic plan (Copyright © 2007 by Apollo Group, Inc.), many concerns were brought up. In-depth discussions and thoughts were conversed by Learning Team B (LTB). The main problem recognized in LTB was the personality of the founder, Kathy Kudler. The team concluded by consensus that Kathy has an excessively controlling personality. Many of the immediate issues can be extinguished by delegating duties to qualified individuals. By placing talented people into key areas of the management team, Kathy could run the business more efficiently and concentrate her efforts of expanding new stores in additional geographic areas. Daily purchasing is the most time consuming task for KFF. Having to track perishables, keep inventory of what was sold and what was lost, and ordering daily to replenish these items would be quite a task for each store in itself. By training each store manager individually, Kathy could educate each manager and instill her own personal purchasing philosophies. She would have to sacrifice a little extra time each day to this specific task during the training period with the opening of each additional store. As new managers enter her workforce, she can train them prior to a store’s opening. Kathy can also set expectations and create incentives for her managers by tracking the percentage of perishables that are wasted. Expectations go beyond job descriptions or job outlines. They allow communication between managers and corporate personnel to flow both ways so everything is understood and there are no questions on what needs to be accomplished
