Cox says that we need to reduce the use of air conditioning because it uses fuel to work and burning fuel results in pollution (Cox 344). Air conditioning is one of those technologies which cause global warming due to adding green house gases in the environment. But Cox neglects the benefits of having air conditioning. For instance, AC not only helps to maintain room temperature, but it also removes extra moisture from the air. (“AC also helps to clean the air by removing dust particles in the air”).
He says such consequences are counterproductive to the goals of recycling and contradict environmentalist claims and intentions. Murray further claims that re-recycling time after time produces ineffective and weakened products, yet expends the same energy and carbon emission that it would take for initial production. Murray offers plenty of snarky commentary in his editorial but no solutions or proposals to the issues he raises, and seems particularly concerned with issues of consumerism and capitalism rather than conservation and environmentalism. We need to re-shift our focus and return to the true intentions of the environmental movement, and to seek solutions. Murray weakens his argument with his bias and personal agenda, and his snarky, sarcastic, and patronizing tone is extremely off putting to readers, especially those who endorse the environmental movement.
Finally, there is a dangerous lack of oversight by FDA regulators into the safety violations of companies such as Chemins leading to a reduced rate of public health and safety. Display: There are a number of options available to the Chemins company to deal with the ethical issue of mislabeled products. One is for the company to submit to mandatory testing of their products in order to ensure that what is on the label is what the product actually contains. This testing can be performed at the expense of either the company or the government, though this author believes it is the job of a company to own the regulatory compliance expense of ensuring its products are safe for
Maria Ruiz English 101 Prof. Courtney Stanton Oct. 8, 2014 Sustainability and our Environment Our natural world is losing its essence of ‘natural’ to become a polluted and corrupted place. In Curtis White’s work, “A Good Without Light” and Jim Tarter’s work, “Some Live More Downstream than Others”; Tarter doesn’t mention a solution to our environmental crisis, but he presents his idea that science can be of great use to find the factors that create pollution, cancer and so on. White’s solution to this barbaric heart is that we have the power to stop it, but instead we are making the choice to hurt others. Overall these works show us the effects of how we suffer the consequences when the Barbaric Heart is violating our environment. White’s view on the barbaric heart promotes our own self-benefit, which links to Tarter’s view of living downstream.
Per Organic Consumers Association, Irradiation is a ‘magic bullet’ that will enable the company to say that the product was ‘clean’ when it left the packing plant. The claim, more rather, lacks the key source in evidence, for even the best sanitation and standard antibacterial treatments cannot ensure safety in foods. In addition, irradiation cannot occur properly if the food is too heavily contaminated, preventing industries from using this practice as a substitution for good sanitation practices. Irradiation is not harmful in producing resistant strains of bacteria, nor does it make food radioactive. It simply reduces the amounts of bacteria in foods that may become potential illnesses in humans.
Unlike petroleum, biofuels can avoid environmental degradation. That is because biofuels consume large amounts of wastes. If these wastes were not used by biofuels, they wound produce heat-trapping methane into the atmosphere and deteriorate global warming. That is why biofuels can slow down the global warming. In addition, biofuels can also save energy.
If only there was a way to supply the population with a cheaper, more plentiful alternative to gasoline that is so desperately needed. Homeless people are rich in natural oils. The absence of showers ensures that the street dwellers will not be ridding themselves of their daily, natural human secretions that the rest of us rinse off every night and day. How do we reach these oils? When we shower the precious secretions are mixed into a useless batch containing water and soap, and that is no
Another study at the University of Missouri shows that bottled water increases the growth of breast cells by 78%.” I don’t think humans should pay more money for water that tastes the same as tap water and also hurts the environment just to risk their lives. I don’t think you want to add another symptom leading to cancer; one of our foremost death causes. In addition to the brand-new water bottles having chemicals inside, even reusing the bottles with our own tap water has its disadvantages. Studies show that if water bottles that are made of single-use plastic are reused, then they can produce leach chemicals in the water that lead to bacterial growth. I think that humans should not waste money for single-use items when they got all the water they need at home.
Aka, the exact same thing that comes out of your faucet. One might ask, why is this a problem? Well the fact is, the earth's water supply shouldn't be for sale. Water is a public commodity that should be free to any and everyone. In the words of mahondas ghandi “There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.” If we continue to consume bottled water at the rate we are now, 20 years from now we may not have any water left for the need of mankind.
First World companies may also build plants, which release significant pollution, in Third World nations to avoid the policy these companies would face at home. Suggest the reasons a business may conduct operations in a third word county and disregard any standards of pollution control. The reasons business conduct operations in third word country are because the labor and wages conditions. In the United State has a stronger value to safety and regulation regarding labor and wages for the workers. Also an environmental consideration is a factor for these companies to conduct in third word countries.
