Human Resource Management Roles Jaime Campbell HSC/341 October 21, 2012 Angela Thomas Human Resource Management Roles Human Resources in any organization are a vital part of how the business operates. Human Resources Departments within the health care industry operate on nine primary functions. Each of these functions is important to the daily operations within the facility as well as the future of the facility. “The director of human resources may supervise several departments, each headed by an experienced manager who most likely specializes in one human resources activity, such as employment, compensation, benefits, training and development, or employee relations” (Human Resources, Training, and Labor Relations…show more content…
This HR team member is well versed about the health care marketplace in order to offer competitive compensations packages to new and existing members of the staff. This includes some market research to determine what a facility can do in the way of benefits and how much it will cost to supply said benefits to the staff. Regulatory compliance This function ensures that each member of the staff knows and understands the regulations the facility and each staff member are held to. This involves any credentials that team members must have to perform their individual jobs. It also involves ensuring that each member of the staff is aware of and follows the HIPAA and other guidelines legally mandated to health care facilities. Risk management Risk management involves minimizing the risk to the facility because of medical malpractice, employee safety, equipment safety, and the protection of profits of the facility. Employee relations Employee relations main focus is on the relationship between the employer and the employee. This area of the HR Department also involves regulations monitored by OSHA. Employee health is a relatively new concept. Marsha Thomas of Metropolitan Family Service in Chicago says,” Wellness Fairs are another important offering for our employees” Dorna, H. (2004). Protecting the health and wellness of employees allows for lower stress and greater productivity. Performance Management Performance Management allows for review of skills and proficiency of employees. This involves the review process, which in most cases relates directly to compensation. Managers monitor how employees are doing to identify areas that need improvement or things that are done exceptionally. Conclusion Human Resources Management Roles are a very important part of how a facility functions. They are the first line of engagement with employees and outside regulatory entities. Each member of the human resources staff can make the work place great by making the best choices for the facility and those within it. The nine primary functions if done well, can set the tone for a very productive and happy workplace.
