Portraying excellence in this part of health care is necessary to deliver quality care to patients. The core to any facility is nursing and acquiring the best leadership and management is the key to any facility. Therefore, behavior, involvement, demeanor, and discipline of a healthcare facility start with their leadership, which develops the commitment and drive for this facility. This paper will explain the difference between leadership and management, explain characteristics of an effective leader, and last illustrate views of leadership.

The importance of continually improving my knowledge, is to ensure that the I am aware of, and follow, the current health & social care standards, legislation, and guidelines for good practice. Learning new skills and refreshing training enables me to progress, and achieve within my career and working practices. Personal development not only benefits an individual, but also the organization, and the residents who receive the services. The focus of training tends to be on the staff group delivering the services, to ensure that all recommendations and standards are achieved.

I must continually improve my knowledge so I have the skills to pass on to our social care workers and other staff members. I need to know what I am aiming for and what I need to do to meet my objectives. I need to be a positive role model to all staff members. I think organization would be the main component needed to enhance the role and function of a health care manager. A manager must be organized in order to lead, and in order to lead the manager must plan, which is also organization. In any aspect, a health care manager must stay organized to be able to supervise his or her staff members and work alongside the company to reach the intended goals. An organized manager is more capable of running an organized staff which will always be able to provide better health care and quality to the patients. If an organization wants to achieve these two concepts then they require a continuous effort on the part of the organization. Quality improvement (QI) is an important factor in an organization as they work toward achieving safe patient and quality care. The organization needs to have set guidelines as well as dependable and consistent care as it relates to providing QI. This study will look into QI as well as look the importance of quality management as well as the impact it has in health care.

Managers must ensure they continue to update and refresh their knowledge through, for example; research, training, seminars, workshops etc. in order to ensure current working practices are meeting legislation such as employment laws, equal opportunities etc. and meeting standards such as the care council code of practice and national minimum standards and regulations as set out by CSIW. It is vital for management to be aware and up to date with relevant legislation and information, as it is a part of their role to guide, support and influence other staff to do well in their own roles.
