How to communicate effectively and diversely. 1.1 Whilst at work, a client was unsatisfied with the charges relating to his account. The client was irritated that he had been charged for fees without being informed. He then became verbally abusive and was shouting. I evaluated the situation and deemed it necessary to intervene as this situation could have escalated into something extremely serious. I considered that I must take ownership of the current predicament before it escalated. I tried to emphasize with the client's point of view. I considered that I had to remain calm and constructive despite the client shouting and using verbally abusive language. My aim was to ensure the issue was handled sensitively, safely and appropriately. My method of intervention was professional, calm and focused. I did not shout back at the customer or become aggressive. I demonstrated my willingness to remove the difficult situation whilst still upholding the company's standards. This resulted in the client accepting the outcome and apologizing for his behaviour. The primary difficulty I experienced was dealing with a customer who was both irate and verbally abusive. To overcome this quickly I analyzed and evaluated the situation, by assessing all the risks and then I communicated with the customer with integrity and respect, ensuring I remained calm and professional. 1.2 Describe when you have encouraged a person to view an issue more positively. At college, whilst studying I was a group leader for a team project with a deadline to meet. There was a difference of opinion where one person was obstinate and unwilling to discuss idea's which hindered the progression pace of the team.
