As many people would recognize, there is a rising obesity problem in America and there are many influences that could contribute to this. Fast food is not the healthiest choice but, they should not be to blame for making children obese. In David Zinczenko’s “Don’t Blame the Eater” he talks about how the obese population is blaming fast food companies for their health situations. He begins his argument with what he observes as a ridiculous headline, which is that kids are suing McDonalds for being fat. David starts by teasing these overweight individuals that are bring a lawsuit against McDonalds, but then later admits that he used to be overweight as a child and was able to change his life around.
Personal Responsibility This article is titled “Don’t Blame the Eater” and is written by David Zinczenko. He writes about how the fast food industry takes advantage of the younger generations because of their ignorance and their lack of parental supervision. He talks about how he can sympathize with the fat people who are suing the fast food industries because he himself was obese as a child. David Zinczenco, the editor-in-chief of Men’s Health Magazine wrote, “Don’t Blame the Eater.” In his reading he cites the irresponsible actions of fast food establishments, such as marketing to young kids, not providing nutritional facts completely, being responsible for obesity and poor health issues in many Americans today. This poses the question. Can they be held accountable? In all reality, maybe it is the lack of concern and the love of financial gain that these establishments thrive off of.

They say we feed our children junk food, and that they get very little playing time outside, but do you know that childhood obesity happens not only in the Houston but all over the United States? Introduction The rapid increase of overweight and obese people in the United States has been described as an “epidemic” (U.S. government), but people still do nothing or are not worried enough to stop this up going problem. Morgan Spurlock is an north American cineaste who filmed the documentary “Super Size me”. The documentary daily narrates his 30 day Mc Donald’s diet and the consequences that it had on the health and physical appearance of Spurlock. Furthermore, it also interview people in the streets and experts in order to gain credibility and have a stronger impacts in the viewer opinion. Nevertheless the documentary is extremely biased, it makes the fast food companies looks like enemies and it doesn’t even give a point of view which could go against his ideas.
I completely agree with Weintraub and believe that they should take more responsibility. I’ll admit that fast food advertisements play a big role in child obesity. But not big enough to overpower the kids’ parents; at least, it shouldn’t. While some argued that it is the fault of food industries, and for some, fault of consumers, it can easily be resolved with two words: self-responsibility. Therefore, consumers are definitely the ones responsible for the current epidemic in this country. The first reason why consumers are responsible for America’s obesity epidemic is because consumers are the ones that choose what to eat and feed their children. There are many alternatives to fast food but most people rather not take their time to prepare for a healthier meal. In “The Battle against Fast Food Begins in Home”, author Daniel Weibtraub tries to convince parents to take a stand and fend off obesity in their homes.

Some years before 1994, children with diabetes were most commonly associated with genetic disorders. Since then, the cost of healthcare has peeked. Fast food may be the only option for children to get an affordable meal. Fast food restaurants often give false perceptions of their foods.

Over time, the fast food industry has increasingly manipulated consumers and corrupted the stability of the nation, and although the convenience and affordability of fast food has made it widely popular, the disadvantages noticeably exceed the benefits.
