Effective communication is essential in order to work successfully with children parent’s and staff. It is important for teaching assistants to have the skills to listen and respond to the views of others. It is important to respect others by taking an interest on what they are saying through body language and sound of voice. By doing this you are creating a good example for pupils who will therefore learn from you on how to communicate positively with others.
1. What strategies you might employ to encourage pupil to behave appropriately? A teacher assistant should encourage good behaviour at all times to minimize the chances to deal with misbehaviour as it arises. As a teaching assistant I would state the expectation at the beginning and model them for students which helps pupil to behave appropriately. Pupil respond to set goals and expectations better if they have been set out and explained to them clearly.
That means I should consider how I approach other people and my response for them. Parents and other adults who come to school are most likely to give beneficial support if communication is strong and effective. It is also important for pupils that models effective communication skills. This means checking what I am saying, sometimes in moment of stress or excitement, so that they can understand what my expectations are in school, effective communication and positive relationship do not happen by chance. We have to build bridge of trust.

Being a teaching assistant ,you have to model yourself in a best possible way to communicate with children as they learn and absorb your methods of communication. In order to develop and maintain positive relationships with children ,I have to communicate politely and clearly so that they can understand me. By using simple vocabulary and positive body language I can get their attention more easily and my friendly approach would make me trustworthy for them and they can discuss their problems or share their ideas with me. For example,in my placement,my friendly and polite attitude towards reception children makes it easy for them to bring their complaints to me;if they are hurt or hit by somebody.
How Does Assessment Influence Instruction? Through performance assessment, when teachers are aware of their pupil’s progress and know the difficulties their students face, they are in a better position to make the right decisions. The teachers know the next step that they need to take in order to improve learning. They will know exactly what needs to be thought and how. With the help of performance based results, teachers make instructional placement, formative evaluation and diagnostic decisions in order to issue better instructions.

TDA 3.1 Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults It is immensely important that we develop positive relationships with children, young people and adults and this begins with the manner with which we approach and respond to them. Having positive relationships means we are more than likely to communicate information well to parents and other visitors to the school environment and this will gain their trust and in turn will be beneficial to the pupils. The more positively we deal with this will, in turn, mean that we end up with better relationships and should communications not be clear or break down, this is when misinterpretations become evident and lead to relationships deteriorating. When individuals feel comfortable in our company they are more likely to communicate effectively with us and this is paramount in relationship building. Other essential aspects to be considered include the following: Showing respect and taking the time to listen, making sure of clarity on key points, showing consideration for others and remembering personal issues, finally being effective in your communication and retaining a good sense of humour.
They may have been rewarded for acting out in the past by getting what they want or receiving attention. Knowing why children misbehave helps parents and educators to discipline children using positive and effective early childhood techniques. Communication is the key to effective discipline. Communication needs to go both ways with both adult and child feeling understood. Children respond well to positive reinforcement.
These opportunities give the children confidence and promotes their interaction with each other. This has an impact on how each child behaves at the school.
