Issues and Impacts on Business The mission and vision developed by Tom has been clearly laid out for the employees and customers to understand what the Coffee Shop is striving to offer. Willie is not following the company’s overall goals values of the coffee shop; the specific functions that have been established for the employees do not fit the company’s plan. The new manager has lost its focus on the customer. Whereas Tom’s Coffee Shop strategy was previously based on its differentiation as a competitive advantage based on quality products and customer service; the shop is now operating at a cost leadership strategy through narrowing its product selection and scope. The new manager’s business strategy to cut costs is not effective due to its failure of keeping existing customers happy and losing their business.
How do you think managers can ensure that their performance behavior meets the requirements of the organization for which they work? It is important for a manager to have experience with and an understanding of the processes and procedures carried out by their team/department. Managers should be familiar with company schedules and deadlines, communicate these deadlines to their team and plan accordingly. They should also have a clear understanding of the company’s goals and objectives. A manger should report on and audit their team/departments overall productivity and outputs to ensure that time and recourses are being spent wisely.
From a standpoint of a shopper I would evaluate the store as a confusing mess that seemed like a sale every time one shops. Sales are advertised but employees don't necessarily push the sales. The management goals reflect the employees' goals to let the products sell themselves. This hurts the company knowing that consumers can shop products on a "take it or leave it" attitude. Most people are aware of the lack of customer service Best Buy does not provide.
Organizational Culture The term “organizational culture” is defined as a shared set of beliefs and values within an organization (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008, p. 11). These beliefs and values will determine the vision for a company and are generally bred by senior management. Organizations with strong cultures have a distinct advantage over those with weaker cultures. Harmonious relationships on both the peer level, and between the hierarchical levels of an organizational structure, lead to increased productivity and quality. The key characteristic of the organizational culture is that it is a representation of how employees feel in the workplace.
Pocketing the difference between price tag, ongoing promotion and cash sales. * Involuntary rotation might not be good for the moral of the employees, lowering their loyalty and increasing their turnover * Lack of charismatic leadership: * Branch managers have no close relationship with their corporate superiors. * Performance evaluation is based on lowering theft percentage, not personal goals to achieve. Those factors result in poor perceived organizational support (OB, p. 110). This perception has a direct effect on employees’ engagement and organizational citizenship behavior towards the goals of the company.
A ‘style’ of leadership is defined and identified by the competencies and skills that the leader applies to guide, facilitate and support the people of the organization in their efforts to accomplish their tasks (Ebiz.netopia.com 2011). This simply means that the ‘type’ of leader is based on the qualities and attributes that the leader possess whilst the leadership style is how that leader deals with a specific situation (Ebiz.netopia.com 2011). Factors that Contribute to a Successful Business Leadership A business’s success, locally or internationally, is influenced by the people in leadership positions. There are various factors that affect business leadership: * Self-Understanding: a leader must know his personal strengths and weaknesses. These managers are responsible of the well being of the employees of the company. The roles of these managers are to find and bring in employees that have or show potential to thrive within the company. They also have to oversee the well-being of employees while employed with the company and make sure the employees are in compliance with company polices and laws. Leadership is another important factor for managers. Managers, to effectively manage and guide employees, use leadership.
