In an online learning environment it is very easy to determine who the active, visible students are from the invisible. The invisible students are the students that do just the bare minimum to pass the class. They often show little to no involvement in the classroom and in discussion forums. They show lack of input in not bringing anything new to the discussions and in not challenging themselves or other students to become better and successful students. Lack of interactions and participation can greatly affect the environment of a classroom.
Many teachers do not like “catching plagiarists and bringing them to academic justice.” As she states, it is not hard to just cite the author that originally had the information you are using (Bojar). Plagiarism is becoming a big problem in the school system. Many students do not understand what needs to be cited and what does not. The school system should teach students the proper way to cite, and they should teach them that copy and pasting is not writing a paper. According Bojar to students at the community college have a hard time juggling classes along with his or her family and a job.
However, text messaging has been a major problem with students texting in class interfering with the disruption of their learning. Most teachers express how they feel about cell phones being a distraction to others, however very few students have complaints about the use of cell phones in class. Text messaging in class should be allowed by choice of the students, it can easily be discreet and the possibility of an emergency. Text messaging in class should be allowed by the choice of students. In the argument “Tapping into Text Messaging” by Janet Kornblum, says teens, techies and other early adopters leading the charge to text say it is a great way to communicate when they are too busy to talk or when making a call would be rude or impractical.
Inclusion of all students is important. If they feel intimidated in class they can come to me afterwards and ask a question in private. If they leave my class happy, I feel they have learnt something. It is very important for the students to know they have the support of the teacher and feel confident in the knowledge that any information given to the teacher is treated in
Ability to reteach material to students until they understand it. Hold a Bachelors in early childhood education and create a warm and loving atmosphere for students. Learning online is different than learning in other context because when it comes to online learning it is flexible and convenient you can attend classes (collaborate sessions) from the your own home whiles being comfortable and complete your essays or assignments at any part of the day. Online studies are great for students who have family commitments or busy work schedules but still want to achieve a degree of some sort. The teacher may have genuinely been concerned with presenting too much information to students but through my classes at Sage, excessive stimuli is good of students with ADD because it gives them many things to focus on instead of causing behavioral problems. I want to have a classroom that has a lot of visuals and educational posters on the wall. Everything in my classroom will have a purpose and will be directly related to what I am teaching or be ongoing projects. I really liked Esme’s ideas and
Gatto says that school diminishes creativity; if anything kids discover their hidden creativeness in class while at school. He also says that kids are not able to advance in higher learning. When clearly, kids are able to follow the teacher and be able to get A's while the subjects get more extreme. Gatto says, "teachers tend to blame the kids, as you might expect"(pg. 683) from personal experiences I can say that I have had great relationships with my teachers throughout elementary school and especially High school.
Yes, of course you have your meetings and test to go do inside the school lab, but you still have your independence. There are many kids that can not work right because what their teacher is in the same room, some worry about what the teacher is always thinking. Either they are worrying what their peers are thinking or how they are judging you. With online you can do everything by yourself, when you need help and you can not go to the lab right at the moment you can email, or mail message on the virtual profile site. Another option is to text, all kids love to text, so when you need support and quick response you can just text your teacher.
Students taking online classes are free to express their opinion on message thread which allows other students to comment also and keep conversation going. Through distance learning students who are shy and not open to conversation can easily express and help them become more comfortable. “Generally speaking face to face communication with an instructor is minimized or eliminated altogether” (Barszcz 151). Distance learning can go both ways, if a student prefers to attend campus and have face to face contact it’s totally up to them, but for those students who are independent and are working full-time distance learning is the only option for them to advance in their career. For students who are living on their own with expense such as rent and bills, distance learning make their lives easy and can be managed with full-time job.
