Unit 331 understand child and young person development. 1.1 Sequence and rate of development is all dependant on the individual child/young person, their physical, communication, intellectual and social development is crucial to understand in order to help them. 0 to 3 years old babies are new to this atmosphere they use small muscle movements such as reflexes, sucking, smiling and raising their hands. By 5 months they begin to roll over and shuffle, at 8 months they pull and push on toys/furniture/anything and everything to stand and then glide using the same method of transport. At this stage they are now becoming more curious and want to play with toys, teeth are beginning to sprout and they are now eating solids.
From eight to twelve weeks a baby will lift their head and chest when lying on their tummy and there is almost no head lag when in a sitting position. Their legs can kick vigorously, both separately and together. They wave their arms, bring their hands together and play with their fingers. They are able to hold a rattle for a short time before dropping it. At this age babies become distressed by sudden loud noises and show

So say if you act out on these attitudes, it could have a bad effect on the children your working with and other children they might know, and you would not want them to copy your own actions in a result. Everyone from child to adult that we may meet on a day to day basis could have a different opinion to mine, and are more than likely will have different values and mind sets. When you are around children of your own or other parents children, you have to be in control of the things you are saying and the actions you are taking, because children can take so much information and tend to copy what an adult says and does, as most children will see there family and other adults as a role model. Like me for example, i act almost the same age as the children i work with, but yet at the same time i act a mature age to show them what they should and should not say and be careful of what i am saying to the children when with them in class. If we go and show bad attitude and show that we are negative to certain people around them.

By the age of one; they have a lot more control over their bodies. In this stage, they are beginning to crawl, shuffle, pull or push on things to stand. Between 1 and 2 years walking will begin and toys will be pulled or pushed along whilst walking. They enjoy attempting to feed themselves with finger foods. Waving goodbye becomes fun they will begin to point to what they want and shake their head to mean ‘no’.
0 to 3 years is a period of fast physical development. When born babies have very little control over their bodies. They have primitive reflexes such as sucking, grasping and rooting. Their head control is unsteady, but they will grasp at objects when they touch the palms of their hands. As they progress up to 12 months they will learn to watch movements of their own hands, they will be able to roll over, sit with support, sit without support, reach out for toys when sitting, and crawl or shuffle along the floor.
Between the ages of 3 and 12 a child greatly develops their hand eye coordination through activities such as drawing, painting and sports. By the age of 7 a child will be able to throw, catch and kick a ball with some accuracy which helps muscle development as well as coordination. The child will be very active and experience growth spurts. They will also be able to eat independently with the correct utensils, and tend to their own toileting needs. Children may develop nervous habits such as foot tapping at around the age of 8, this could pass but might become an involuntary
