One reason is because it’s priceless being that it is printed out on all our customer receipts. The second reason is because it will bring people back to our restaurant or at least consider it. College students do not plan ahead of time so something they can grab on their way is a great product and providing more quality for only a smaller premium than other leading coffee shops will give them a satisfying choice they can get on their budget. Middle-class families tend to be on the move for extra-curricular activities, and this means meals and coffee on the go, meaning a need for healthy options for snacks
This suggestion is supported by the fact that 36.53% of our trash is the brand Great Value meaning that our household consistently purchases the cheapest brands. Further evidence shows that we consistently buy packaged products (a whopping 62.65% was packaging!) and this is probably because packaged food is easier and quicker to make. Some more factors that place our household among the "average consumer with a limited budget" is that 80.72% of our trash was non-perishable meaning that we regularly purchased items of food that would last longer (i.e. we used more whole wheat pasta instead of bananas and other fresh fruits).
Also, buying healthier snacks may not taste as sweet as donuts or cakes but they do cost less. Students who decide to buy apples and oranges will save a few dollars, compared to those students who are buying donuts and cakes, because the money will start to add up more than they think it will. Making decisions such as eating healthier will also keep students healthy thus providing them with the nutrients to think and perform better during class. My aunt introduced an idea to me which makes sense and also saves money. The idea is called “Pot-lucking”, this is where people from the same dorm or floor puts money together and buys food for all students on the floor one week, and then the next week a different room has the same plan.

Through obtaining products directly from local farmers would also lower shipping costs, thus satisfy customer requests, and contribute to the local community, while continuing to be profitable. Consumers still experience a limited product selection during the season, but the overall satisfaction during the peak times will help sustain customer loyalty. As season products change, the employees should stay current as to what products will be available, and when shipments arrive. The more knowledgeable the employee is, the more trust the customer will have in the business as a whole. Empowering employees with experience will allow them to help the public successfully resulting in an overall customer service experience that will set them apart from other local grocery store chains.
Kudler’s means of differentiating itself from the competition is its ability to provide the best products and the best customer service. The fact that Kudler’s prices are obviously at a premium compared to those of a standard market means that they must earn the mark up built into product costs. Kudler’s owner, Kathy Kudler, enjoys her time spent on the sales floor serving customers more than any other aspect of her job. Another means of providing value to the customer is that of education. By explaining the nutritional values of organic foods and offering samples of exotic products, the consumer benefits from learning the value of organics and the newfound willingness to try foods that were previously unknown to them.
When looking at the bottom line, this practice takes an employee away from working the register or counter as well as increases the costs associated with providing goods for no profit. As a manager, I support Kudler’s practice of offering the samples. I see that it makes the customers happy and our employees get to know members within the community. The event offers more social interaction than a traditional grocery store could offer. Although it may cost most to staff this event, my values and ethics tell me I should concentrate on what is most beneficial to my employees and my customers.
As an employee of a company who thinks highly enough to aid in education and bettering oneself as a person, well, gracious seems to come to mind. Changing jobs and employers is not what people normally want to do, so giving them reasons to stay is all that it takes. At Donco, we believe that the continuous effort to assist in employee health and wellness is strategy that affords all to win. A company is made up of its employees, for their bettering is our bettering. Education has many other positive ripple effects.
