Tuition Reimbursement XCOM/285 February 20, 2011 Glenda Powell Tuition Reimbursement After a successful and profitable year, Donnie Company [Donco] issued a task for the Human Resource Department [HR], specifically employee benefits section to analyze the cost and effect of increasing tuition benefits to all employees. Donco is trying to see whether the cost to the company for providing tuition assistance will prove a beneficial decision or a waste of company dollars. The most interesting questions to answer are whether furthering one’s education provides the company with a more valuable employee, in addition to increased loyalty and production. Our company’s principles say that we will treat employees like family, so time has come to deliver on that promise. Donco hopes every employee takes advantage of the TAP to further his or her education. Attainment of higher education degrees will allow our workforce to steadily progress into management positions. A degree can open doors for individuals to achieve life-long dreams or aspirations. Donco has not lost an employee who chooses to chase a dream, quite the opposite; our company is better and stronger for caring. The loyalty instilled in someone when so much caring is shown is priceless. The affect this individual can have on attitudes in the workplace is amazing. Simply stated, this is doing the right thing for the workers. According the U.S. census bureau, between 2005-2009 median earnings for individuals with a high school diploma was $27,272, while those with a bachelor’s degree earned $47,747 [Census, 2009]. Career choices available for those with a bachelor’s degree include software engineer, network systems analyst, graphic design, human resource management, financial advisor, and market research analyst among many others. As an employee of a company who thinks highly enough to aid in education and bettering oneself as a person, well, gracious seems to come to mind. Changing jobs and employers is not what people normally want to do, so giving them reasons to stay is all that it takes. At Donco, we believe that the continuous effort to assist in employee health and wellness is strategy that affords all to win. A company is made up of its employees, for their bettering is our bettering. Education has many other positive ripple effects. Statistics show that college educated individuals take better care of themselves, participate in more volunteer activities, and more socially conscience. These qualities can only make a company stronger. Healthier living can improve a company’s health insurance cost, and acquiring better social skills and understanding only enhances the work environment. Similar to the ideal of our Nation, to increase education and accessibility to all, for our country is better when more people get degrees as our company is. To have any real sustainability as a company, education is a primary factor in the success, not just for the elite few, but also for the masses. The introduction of increased benefits in the tuition reimbursement program will send a significant message of respect and caring to employees.
