My Big Fat Greek Wedding Ashley Pinksy Azusa Pacific University GLBL 210 Global Studies C. Renaldo June 18, 2008 The film I watched on Sunday, June 17, 2008 is named My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Toula is 30 years old and is the main character. She lives with her parents, works in her family’s restaurant, and is single. Her father, Gus wants her to get married to a nice Greek boy, cook for her family, and have Greek babies because that is what Greek women are raised to do. However, Toula wanted more to life.
Women from both city-states would get married once they reach the age of 15. Their father would choose their husband and sometimes the women would marry someone they never even met before. After marriage, the Athenian women would stay at home most of the time unless their husband accompanies them. The Spartan women were much more luckier. After marriage they could still continue their normal and free lives.
Preserving artifacts is great for Greeks economy because it attracts millions of tourists each year and makes thousands of jobs. Greece attracts so many tourists every year because of their techniques to conserve their ancient monuments and artifacts and the acropolis in Athens has even been described by UNESCO as “the greatest architectural and artistic complex bequeathed by Greek antiquity to the world”. Sculptures from ancient Greece is also something that is world-wide known and admired until today. Artists that study sculptures and ancient art will always search for Greece as a primary resource of arts and ancient history. The Greek economy may not be doing so well nowadays but even tough they lack money in various areas they never let their cultural artifacts in a bad state.
Nature of the Conflict This conflict is over where this family is going to live. When Randy told Jennifer that he would like the entire family to move to Denver the conflict was triggered into mutual awareness. The following is a dialogue between Randy and Jennifer, taken from Wilmot &Hocker (2011), as they express their distress with one another: Randy: Jen, I miss you and the kids, and I hate being a weekend dad. It only makes sense for us all to move to Denver. I’m making enough money now that you can go back to school after a year or so.
Is College Debt Worth It? We all grow up being exposed to the thought of college being full of parties, drinking, and a whole lot of sex. As a college student, I can attest that the exposure we’ve experienced is true, but there is one thing that the media has failed to mention: College debt is real and obtaining a degree doesn’t mean you’ll have employers throwing copious amounts of money at you. In the article “Debt Education: Bad for the Young, Bad for America”, written by Jeffrey J. Williams, data shows that tuition has increased at roughly three times the rate of inflation. Inflation aside, this means college is getting more expensive.
In the bad economy of today, tuition rate are increasing constantly. It is difficult for students to find colleges who have tuition rates for full time student under $5,000 per semester. Since UTA uses flat rate, full time students have to pay $4439 per semester which include using every facilities available and 12 to 30 credit hours (“Description of Tuition, Fees and Charges”).This way student who are taking more classes can save a lot of money than student who are taking less classes. UTA also meets the demand for graduate students. The graduation rate shows successful completion of college and gives an idea about quality of the program provided by college.
Citizens and legal immigrants are denied by the intake of illegal students and offering them in-state tuition rates. With the tuition at private colleges skyrocketing each year, slots and in-state tuition rates at public colleges are the only hope for students holding legal status who want to pursue their dreams. UCLA, being one of the top public colleges in United States, has an admittance rate of only twenty-three percent. Shockingly, of those twenty percent of applicants accepted, three percent of them are undocumented aliens. Seven percent of them do not have their ethnicities reported, meaning that there can be more undocumented students.
9-14-13 First Year There are many momentous moments in a young person’s life. Most teenagers look forward to getting their license, first car, first date, and more importantly graduating high school. Each and every one of these moments will impact an individual in a different way, whether it be for better or for worse. Many students upon graduating high school don’t know what to expect. Entering college can be one of the scariest, yet liberating experiences of a young adult’s life.
Clearly, many student athletes are very dedicated to their sport and their teams. Some are working in hopes of furthering their athletic careers, while others know this is an opportunity to participate in sports to make enduring friendships and learn valuable life sills. student athletes model integrity, respect and responsibility on and off the field. Regardless of which path a student athlete pursues, it is likely that eventually they will end up in a non-athletic career. The likelihood of making it to the professional level of athletics from college is very low, typically 1 or 2% depending on the sport.
Why would someone work their tails off, practice for numerous hours a week, eat right, and focus so much on being the best if winning wasn't important? Think about that for a second. Why would someone instill so much time into something that just wasn't worth it?Vince Lombardi once said, "If winning isn't everything, then why do they keep score?" This is something that really got to me and has been embedded in my head for as long as I can remember. Winning may not be everything, but it definitely is a very important factor in sports.
