Evaluation of four year college UTA These days in this bad economy, getting a college degree is a pretty good idea. Those who go to college make more money and have more opportunities than those who don't. Studying in the right college will make a lot of difference in a career path. Sometimes, choosing a wrong college may even spoil one’s career. Hence, the importance of choosing the right college becomes significant. That is why evaluation of college is important. When evaluating college, people need to calculate the tuition rate of the school, four year graduation rates, crime rates and student to professor ratio. In the bad economy of today, tuition rate are increasing constantly. It is difficult for students to find colleges who have tuition rates for full time student under $5,000 per semester. Since UTA uses flat rate, full time students have to pay $4439 per semester which include using every facilities available and 12 to 30 credit hours (“Description of Tuition, Fees and Charges”).This way student who are taking more classes can save a lot of money than student who are taking less classes. UTA also meets the demand for graduate students. The graduation rate shows successful completion of college and gives an idea about quality of the program provided by college. UTA’s four year graduation rate is 36.2% of student population in 2010 (collegemeasure.org). Crime rate is one on the biggest problems in society today. With bad economy crimes are constantly rising in colleges. It is very hard to find colleges who have less than 200 crimes per year. UTA has crime rate of 163 crimes per year (UCrime.com). Also according to the UTA police department, crime has decreased in 2010 to 2011. Most colleges in trying to find profit are increasing student to professor ratio. In some of famous universities ratio of students to professor is 200 to 1. The higher student ratio decreases quality of education because there is less time for each student in class when the classes have more students. The four criteria that demands answering when choosing a college are tuition rates, four year graduation rate, crime rate, and student to teacher ratio. UTA fulfills the demands of the criteria better than other four year colleges. My cousin Amit was a permanent resident alien who graduated from UTA majoring in computer engineering. He chose UTA because of the low tuition rates and quality education. Now he works for Texas Instruments as a project manager and makes over $110,000 a year.
