Around ninety-nine percent of families in America own a television, which means they watch TV a little bit each day. So Steven Johnson is writing to a very big audience and tries to persuade to them that watching TV makes you smarter. He starts out his article with a conversation of two scientists from the Woody Allen’s movie Sleeper. The script was supposed to be an opening joke because in the movie all the food that is supposed to be bad for you, turned out to be good for you in the future. The central claim of Steven Johnson’s article would be that watching TV makes you smarter.
While Ozwell E. Spencer was planning on using the advantages of the virus for military uses, the Co-founder Edward Ashford wanted to use the virus for mankind’s benefit. The purpose of the investigation led to a lot of controversy between the employees of Umbrella. The T-Virus was created by the only inspiration of a deadly virus called Ebola, which left no more than demise as it spread. Initially, the development of the project was focused of the Mother Virus (Progenitor Virus), which was discovered decades ago by the founders of Umbrella Incorporated. The T-Virus had its origin when another Co-founder called James Marcus combined the original DNA of a leech with the Progenitor Virus.
STDs, fighting fatalities and injuries, and jail time are real threats to those who choose to live in the false grandeur of a Hollywood life. The Ugly Face of Entertainment Entertainment tempers people's hectic pace of life, preserves sanity, and serves as a vehicle for socialization. In an age of technology, however, new entertainment has invaded society and rotted morals. Television, computer and video games, movies, and others have placed an unhealthy emphasis on indulgence and violence. By capitalizing on thrillers like aggression, much of entertainment has distorted human character and promoted violence.
It seems to me that throughout the years TV has become more popular, and most people have at least one TV in their house. Comparing Fahrenheit 451 to our world exposed how close we are to becoming like them. With the government controlling us, ad our addiction to TV; we have to battle against ourselves to prevent becoming like the world of 451. We do have our differences to 451, because we do not burn books. I find it I retesting that Bradbury wrote this book in 1953 and does an excellent job at predicting what todays society would be like.
Then, they can learn about different troubles and emotions of other societies. Harold states, “One of the things that worries some of us is that television shows like The Sopranos make very bad people seem, well, likeable” (242). When a person feels anger from watching a television show, he or she must realize that it is not real. Even if a television show gives an impression that a bad person is likeable, there are indications that characters are not
Television: A Distortion of Reality Television has become a false reality for millions of Americans and the majority of the global society. “The use of television to promote primarily materialistic values has become a severe, although largely unacknowledged, mental health and public health problem for the United States and the world” (Elgin 105). Duane Elgin speaks about the impact of television on the youth of our nation and how it is “being used to promote mindless consumerism around the planet” (Elgin 104). The negative effects of television are clear, and the reality is that this communication device is changing the important values of the global youth. The lucid shift in values has been from developing a meaningful philosophy in life to being well-off financially.
Argument: For Jeff Jacoby, writer of “A Desensitized Society Drenched in Sleaze,” violent entertainment indirectly causes real life violence. He states that even with his highly religious and disciplined background he was “jaded” from exposure to violent TV. he thinks that if he can be desensitized, then anyone can be desensitized. With that thought, Jacoby may have a valid point. If exposed to violent TV for an extended amount of time, it may be able to desensitize anyone, especially if they come from an already broken home or bad neighborhood.
It has caused countless arguments, cyber bullying, people committing suicide and horrible images and videos being uploaded for the world to see. This simple site is actually very complex. People tend to think its a great way to make friends and reconnect with old ones, but in my opinion is a way of causing stress and anxiety in someones life. Often people use it to cause upset and insult someone from the comfort of behind their computer screen. The problem with Facebook is that it often puts people in bad situations often leading to suicide, self harm, low self-esteem, being harmed by a predator and not being hired by a company.
But if a kid is left alone or unsupervised they could watch shows that encourage them to act differently than usual. Shows on MTV like “Skins, Jersey Shore”, and Jackass could cause them to mimic and use the words they say on these shows or movies (MTV Bad Influence). Of course not all of what they say on these shows is bad but granted a bunch of the shows on MTV aren’t the greatest shows for a little kid to watch but are also meant for older people. If you left a kid alone and the kid knew how to look for channels with no parental controls on the receiver box, your kid could end up watching Jackass or Viva la Bam. Now nobody wants their kid to watch those shows because they could learn from the bad behaviors that these shows air on TV.
The media has a huge control on what is being watched on television. When it comes to Jackass the movie people love watching films that shows people hurting themselves and doing stupid stunts. People believe that watching others get hurt is more entertaining than watching intellectual shows because it puts many of them to sleep. Throughout the film there were many interviews from different people on describing what stupidity means to them. Not many of them really understand what it means.
