P1 – Part A: Know the importance of teams. In this assignment I am going to investigate different types of teams and the benefits of working as a team for an organisation. A team is a group of people that share a common purpose, to which they are all committed, empowered to set goals, solve problems and make decisions. They usually have the same end objective and work together with their individual skill sets to achieve this. Formal Teams; Formal teams are formed as part of an organisational structure, usually where managers organise and delegate work.
A laisse-faire leader will allow his team to make their own decisions and determine their own approach to completing the task at hand. This also means that the team gets very little help or guidance from the leader. Some people prefer this style of leadership because they like to manage their own work, at their own pace, as well as being able to make their own decisions. But on the other hand, others may prefer to have guidance throughout their project to make sure they’re on the right tacks. Laissez-faire leadership can be effective in situations where group members are highly skilled, motivated, and capable of working on their own.
This is communicated down to the employees to set the standard for what is expected. Together, these functions can set the success level of a company. Culture and Behavior An organization is consciously coordinated social unit, composed of two or more people that functions on a relatively continuous basis to achieve a common goal or set of goals (Robbins & Judge, 2009, p. 6). Organizations can have several different purposes. Some are for profit and are in business to make money while others are non-profit and their primary focus is to meet a need.
To do this the company would have to take away from other parts in the company like training, development and growth. 3. Two employees perform the same job and each received exemplary performance ratings. Discuss whether it is fair to give one employee a smaller percentage merit increase because his pay falls within the 3rd quartile but give
1.3: Effective Communication is an important skill in the workplace for managers to perform the basic functions of management. If people don't communicate well it can create conflict. Depending on the position in the workplace, others will have expectations of how an person should communicate with others. It is important that for respect is shown to those he or she works with. The general social care council’s code of practice states that communications should be conducted in an appropriate, open, accurate and straightforward way.
However there are changes that would have a small affect on the business. There are two areas that a business should look at when change happens. Impact on working methods and impact on the products and services offered and is the first thing that a business should look at to improve the quality. We have to review the impact on working methods. This could be ensuring that all staff is using best practice and everyone is working in the same way.
Unit 1 D2 I. Introduction In this report I will be highlighting various components of one of my selected organisations (Tesco) by using PESTLE analysis, their impact on both the organisation (Tesco) and their stakeholders, and what Tesco has done or is doing to keep their stakeholders happy. PESTLE analysis can either benefit or negatively affect a business, either way it is always up to a business to decide the manner in which they deal with these situations and this normally determines whether the company succeeds. This report will uncover just how Tesco (PLC) has dealt with these external business factors. II.
The report will also identify John Lewis's primary stakeholders, their level of interest and importance in the plans to replace 25 call centres with two. The report will also assess what employee needs are being met through working at John Lewis Partnership using Masolows hierarchy of needs model. Stakeholder definition Stake holder definition is a person or organisation that has direct or an indirect stake in a group or business because it can be affected by the business's actions, policies and or its objectives. Decision making with your employees will let them gain respect for the leader and become more determined. This style will bring strength between you and your employees. Laissez-Faire-This style is used when the leader is lazy or distracted, it’s more of a you do what you want style. This style can be used when the team is highly capable and motivated, it’s when the team doesn’t need close monitoring or supervision. This style can cause failure when the leader expects the group to make the decision between themselves when they are un sure about what they need to achieve and how they need to accomplish the task.
For example , if a team member is assigned resources, then it is clear to others that the job is meant for that team member-due to the job specification and specialization. Everyone understands both team and individual performance goals and knows what is expected. 2. Team also needs clear objectives and goals: If the team does not have clear objectives then the purpose of forming a team is defeated. Increasingly the emphasis is on measuring the teams performance from what the team does to what the team is achieving.
