Unit 19 P1 In this assignment I need to describe the types of team that are relevant to my company Fox Associated Ltd. I also need to describe the associated benefits of each type of team. Types of team: They are 2 types of teams, a formal team and an informal team. A formal team is organized for a specific purpose. The team would involve a manager who would need to set out specific tasks or a group of tasks. Formal teams usually have rules and a clear expectation about the parts each team member plays. This team would be suitable because it allows everyone in the team to use their skills and qualifications to their best ability. Then you have the informal team, an informal team has less structure. Even though it is similar to a formal team there are some differences. There is no manager/leader, team members are equal in informal teams. Since there is no specialty, it means that any task done by one team member can be done by any other team member as well. Informal teams are common in start-ups, where all the people involved are equal and have the same skills. Size of team: Out of research it has been shown that the best team size is five to nine people in a group. - An odd number of members will cut down a deadlock of decision making. - The group is large enough to prevent mistakes in terms of insufficient information. - The group is small enough to include everyone. If a decision needs to be made in a short time of period it is better to work in a smaller group, because with a huge group the project will be slowed down. It depends on the company/business if a big group or small group would work out better. Temporary project/task teams: Temporary projects or task teams are set up for a short period to complete a task. They come together when they need to agree on something and they split up when the project/task is completed. Permanent
