Abel Garza PM3110T 4/5/2012 Unit 2 Assignment 1: Understanding Project Management Organizations Learning Objectives and Outcomes: • Explain the significance of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and the Project Management Institute (PMI) standers. The increasing acceptance of project management indicates that the application of appropriate knowledge process, shills, tools, and techniques can have a significant impact on a project success. The PMBOK Guide identifies that subset of the project management body of knowledge generally recognized as good practice. The PMBOK Guide also provides and promotes a common vocabulary within the project management professional for discussing, writing, and applying project management concepts. Such a standard vocabulary is an essential element of a professional discipline. The Project Management Institute (PMI) views this standard as a foundational project management reference for its professional development programs and certifications. As a foundational reference, this standard is neither complete nor all-inclusive. This is a guide rather than a methodolghy. • Describe the goals and objectives of the PMI vis-à-vis other project management organizations. PMI is driven by a clear mission and an underlying set of values that drive how we act and influence the expectations of our stakeholders. Even as a diverse organization, we share a common set of values. Our core values are not subject to changes in the association and business environment or dictated by trends in organization management. These values are fundamental and deeply held. Project Management Impact
