I would either type as though I am talking rather than using proper grammar; reviewing is a tool that I always have needed to utilize because of this. I always have needed to review what I am writing and reading to make sure that my information is conveyed correctly. | Wrap-up questions: How successful was the SQ3R process in helping you grasp the concepts in the section you selected? Will you use SQ3R in the future as a way to master the content in academic readings? When I began reading this chapter I thought as though I did not need the information about to be provided to me.
Reading is an important part of everyday life. That’s why me and my mom read the book “The Glory Field” and had an interview. We talked about the protagonist of the book, the setting of the book, and the plot. The main conflict me and my mom had was “Should Lizzy had went along with Lem and Joshua?”. The interview was exciting and we mostly had the same views about the story.
Although I hadn’t yet become comfortable writing about my past during the first few quarters of school, I enjoyed writing for academic growth. I enjoyed analyzing and debating the issues, reflecting on books we had read, or just journaling my thoughts about the day. It wasn’t until my second year at Evergreen that I was able to revisit some of my past experiences and childhood memories by writing a required memoir for one of my classes. This process was very difficult, and I found myself re-writing over and over again. The experience, although very painful has sparked a desire in me to tell my life
I got like this all because of my literacy. It all goes back to my literacy. Finally being able to not only read but to be able understand everything. I’m glad I toke literacy to the next level because it has really shown me who I am as a person and who I want to be. Understanding literacy has changed my life forever and will continue to change it each and every
Reading books change their mind and maybe as well as their lives. The value of literacy does not only play a role on kids but also on adults. After surviving from the holocaust, it is hard and hurt for Wiesel to recall the memory of what he and others had suffered but he chose to write the history down to let it remembered. He said[,] “I was duty-bound to give meaning to my survival, to justify each moment of my life. I knew the story had to be told.
Before this class had began, I was accustomed to writing essays with narrow ideas. Whenever I would write, I would discuss the topic briefly and move on to the next topic. In English 1301, that all changed. I was no longer "telling" the reader events that were occurring. Instead, I was able to describe in detail the actual events that occurred in my life.
I have always just gave myself the excuse that I am not a good writer and that’s how I am going to live. After reading chapter one I recognize that I have been letting myself live without giving myself a chance to catch up and learn what I need to know about the subject. After learning what is taught to me in this class I will need to keep using my new writing skills or they will be lost. My strengths are reading and understanding the assignment, typing the paper on the computer and generating creative writing skills. My weakness are using correct English grammar and punctuation, staying on topic and citing and references.
Another way that Malcolm X inspired me was when he taught himself to read by just using the dictionary. This was an inspiration to me because I have a dictionary with every word in the English language and instead of using it I just kept it under the bed, but after reading this it has a new spot. Not only did he inspire me but we also shared some of the same viewpoints in our lives. For example on the first to second page of the story he says “from then until I left that prison every moment I had, if I was not reading in the library, I was reading on my bunk.” When I read this quote it made me think about myself because I’m the type of person that likes to keep every moment of my life busy, I don’t like letting my valuable time to go waste. Another idea that I agree with of Malcolm
Through my high school career, I always followed the motto of receiving and completing one task and then moving onto the next. Therefore, I would have to say that I have always been the type that reads “with the grain.” I would rather work with the author’s ideas as opposed to reproducing an argument in terms of my own personal experience. In other words, arguing is not my area of expertise. When I read a book, I often think of the work put into the writing and place myself in the writer’s situation. I find myself lost in thought of how they create ideas to generate their writings and find this to be a difficult task.
I try to take a few minutes each day to read about current studies and often read books either directly about the field or related ones so I can look at issues from multiple perspectives. What are your greatest strengths? Weaknesses? I think my greatest strengths are that I am dedicated to helping people improve their lives through education, I have a passion for all I do, and I am willing to be flexible when need be as well as firm when I have to be. My biggest weakness is an unwillingness to accept my limitations.
