NCLB set forth a certain criteria to be met, but allowed the states to determine how they would accomplish it. Therefore, each state handles assessment and accountability differently. This makes it hard to show success or failure of the programs. Supporters and critics alike can cite research that supports their opinion. My opinion of NCLB is it is flawed, developmentally inappropriate, ill funded, ←and→ leaving more students, teachers, ←and→ schools behind than ever before because The tests have turned into the objective of classroom instruction rather than the measure of teaching ←and→ learning.
Nathan Nguyen Professor Mary Composition I 14 September 2012 In the article “The Case Against Grades,” Alfie Kohn argues that grades make students afraid of explore new things; tests and quizzes are not the ways to measure knowledge .“Assessment-based grading” creates an allusion on how well are students doing in a numerical way. The effects of grading can come in numerous ways. Kohn indicates three crucial conclusions of grading: decrease in self-motivation, diminish in taking scholarly risk and “reduce in quality of students’ thinking”. Don’t on the students, they’re only listening to the message; they’re rational. For many years, adults have send them the message success is more important than learning.
So when Obama said that the way to work on the job crisis is to invest in education that was wrong. Then again when is Obama ever right about anything? Anyway, why is that how it works? All of the jobs that are safe from being computerized are the jobs that you
If schools adopt this new form of punishment, students will become more respectful of the rule set in place by the school about leaving campus. At schools where the measure has already been adopted; students are leaving without permission less and less. The effectiveness of billiam vs. in-school suspension has no comparison. The difference that the alternative punishment makes is very clear to not only school officials, but to students as well. In order to cut down on the number of students who leave school without permission, schools should do away with their inadequate in-school suspension policy, and adopt the new alternative policy known as billiam.
The Board of Education wants the best for students by closing schools, a lot can’t be accomplished by establishing closures across the country. A different approach must be met to help the education system. The budget crisis represents that the world of capitalism will do anything to find money by raiding the public education in pursuit of profit. With a proof of databases of students failing conducted by the Board of Ed., and schools lacking performance, gives the public facts of school
Also, explaining that companies turned around and sell teaching materials designed to raising scores on their OWN test. The author also describes how the test disregards the students’ creativity, imagination, conceptual thinking, curiosity, effort, irony, and other valuable dispositions and attributes. The author suggests that test is not designed to meet the needs of the students; rather yet, the students must all rise to meet the same standards. As a reader, one can conclude that not all students learn the same materials, through the same techniques. Furthermore, the
The ethical issues that regard the high stakes testing is that it could be unfair to some students. Students with disabilities, students who speak English as a second language, students who have testing anxiety, etc. could all do badly on the tests. If they cannot pass the tests, they wont be able to graduate. The testing should be equal for all students and their varying
In the essay “School Is Bad for Children,” the author John Holt argues that traditional schooling prevents children from using their curiosity and stunts their interests in learning. He believes that in the school system, children do not have a chance to learn what they like; they learn what the teachers tell them they must learn causing them to become passive learners. The children don’t have a chance to learn from mistakes or through other children because they are scolded for talking and having wrong answers. John Holt believes that because of all this children learn to hate school and he proposes ideas to reform the school system and make it a more efficient place for children to learn. Holt was persuasive and I found myself agreeing
I feel that these unknown individuals need to grow up. If a person simply cannot respect their own learning environment then why even attend school? They only serve to ruin our school and provide our school with supererogatory infamy. Most importantly, what leads these teenagers to commit such inane actions that only assist in sabotaging the beauty and functionality of our school and its equipment? In my personal opinion, it’s their own immaturity and utter lack of respect for the school and themselves.
Students who live and study in an unusual way cannot outperform at school, and this is one reason in which students decide to leave school. So, it will be a nice windfall if government could solve these issues. As a matter of fact, poor students are not able to be a kind of overachiever’s students that the government seeks. The fact that they leave school can be caused by different reasons, but poverty is still the major cause of attritions. Getting bad grades can be another reason to leave school; in other words, failing a course and getting bad grades tend to yield attrition, and it may result from different issues that students face.
