FINAL EXAM TITLE “Glory Road” is a film that is based on the coaching journey of John Haskins first college career. The setting of this film was in 1965 when the blacks and whites were first integrated into the schools. Coach Haskins was a white American man that started off coaching a high school girl’s basketball team. After a big success of winning the Girl’s state championship, he received an offer to coach at Texas Western College. This college was a Division One school, and he was very anxious to coach because he wanted to play against the best. Coach Haskins and his family moved to El Paso, Texas to pursue the opportunity of his lifetime. The decisions that Coach Haskins made started many devastating conflicts. “Glory Road” can be related to the other films “8 Mile” and “Doubt.” All three of the films consisted of the some type of racial relations. There is discussion about the conflicts and summary of “Glory Road”, the minorities of the films “Glory Road”, “8 Mile” and “Doubt”, and the successful of the films. When Coach Haskins seen the players that they had at Texas Western College, he immediately took his assistants and went to recruit players. Because Texas Western was not known to “WIN” many games, it was hard to recruit players for the school. But one player caught his attention during a game, and his talent was unbelievable. That player was named Bobby Joe Hill. After speaking with Bobby Joe, he sent one of his assistants out to recruit players that were strong and excelled in basketball. The assistant went to places such as New York, Indiana, and Chicago. Before you know it, Coach Haskins had signed seven black players to the team. This was a very big deal because in the south, you could not put more than three blacks on a team. Remember the schools were just integrated, and this was still the south.
