Over the years students have been required to take a test that will evaluate them on how well they do. The FCAT is given to obtain an insight on how much students are learning on three main subjects, science, reading, and math every year. Despite the benefits teachers and schools obtain, standardized testing like the FCAT is not effective in evaluating student’s performance because not all students learn at the same level, they fall under pressure, and they are being taught just for the test which prevents from learning skills that are yet to be learned.
Ian Brown Mr. Moran English I - Honors 12 March 2012 Year-Round Schooling Pro Rebuttal The issue of having year-round school in America or not has been going around for decades. This system is practiced throughout the world with the huge exception of many of our schools. Some claim that it doesn’t make a difference to a child’s scores, but spending more time in the classroom, with shorter but often breaks, can keep their mind refreshed. Even U.S. President Barack Obama stated that the hardships and new challenges in this emerging century “demand more time in the classroom.” Some opponents of this system say that our summer vacation is the perfect time to have a full time-off and that you won’t lose much of what you learned the previous school year. In fact, according to a study at the University of Missouri, they found that many students forgot over two and one-half months of whatever their grade-level equivalency is in mathematics.
I believe that the twelve month school year should be implemented in Monmouth County because of these following reasons. The Author of Say 'No' to Year-round Schooling claims that a twelve month school year would deprive students of their "well earned" freedom, deny students who wish to work during the regular school year the chance to do so, make it impossible for families to have beneficial getaways, result in teachers working in hot classrooms, result in teachers doing even more amounts of work without getting paid more and result in teachers being unable to have vacations with their own families, and result in teachers having to hire sitters to care for their children. The author believes these things because of her assumptions that the twelve month school year will have less vacation time, the teachers will not be paid more, and that the schools air conditioners will not be are conditioned. Year-long schooling will bring a fuller education and students will be less likely to be exposed to negative influences, and be less likely to become victims of crimes. The author says that since the students will be exhausted from attending school from fall to spring, students will not be able to accomplish much over the summer.

Students should not be given grades and diplomas if they did not learn the necessary information and earn the grade. In this essay I will respond on how I agree with Mary Sherry in “In Praise of the F Word “on how students are hurt later in life First, if student doesn’t learn necessary information in high school he or she will not be able or having a lot off trouble in the after life with college or there new job. In example, if a student gets by in his English class not caring and not trying to learn, but his teacher likes the student so he passed him, when that student goes to college he will have trouble because he doesn’t know how to write a correct essay because he was given the grade.

Do children really need an education and if they do are they in school too long? This question causes many different reactions from me because I see endless possibilities with schooling and without a financial barrier I would attend school for the rest of my life. As a working adult, who has little time, I often think that schooling goes on for too long. In his article “Against School: How Public Education Cripples Our Kids and why” John Taylor Gatto blames the education system for creating a cattle drive that sends people towards a specific labor goal.
He voices his opinion on how high school was, how high school is now, and how it could make or break your next four years from all the upsets, hardships and bullying. Fifty years ago, things were way different than how they are today. Kids had to go to school and were respectful to their peers or they would get in a huge amount of trouble, kids were expected to help their parents around the house or does some yard work outside. Nowadays kids do nothing and expect so much in return. If they do not get what they want when they want it, usually they will pitch a fit or they will not speak to their parents and the end result of that situation is the kid ends up getting it.
There’s a specific reason everyone isn’t a teacher, or everyone isn’t a corporate CEO. Everyone has their own set of intangibles that fit them the best. Standardized tests are unreliable as well as a terrible objective of student achievement. Test taking anxiety is a real world problem that takes place today. Imagine your child who is a 4.0 student who has made outstanding grades their entire life sit down to take one test that dictates their future.
Charter schools provide the kind of motivation that will help students overcome obstacles. There are sufficient resources that allow students to reach their goals. In 1999, thirty states including the District of Columbia passed the charter school legislation. Yet, some people still did not understand the meaning of a charter school. For over a century, educational reforms have tried to make schools more efficient.
Also two of my brothers still went to this school with this address on file. I was pretty much fed up with high school at that point. So I got my GED a few years later. School has been hard for me since but I am finally getting past it. I cannot even picture where I would be in life right now.
INTRODUCTION: The following research project is a summation of the various modes of research that I have conducted in order to test my hypothesis. The final year of schooling holds a large amount of stress and anxiety for every student. It is a year of constant pressure and many students are unable to cope with the stress of the upcoming finals and the chance of rejection from university. Many students pursue different methods in order to reduce their levels of anxiety. My hypothesis is that concentration medication does not reduce stress in teenagers and I came to desire to test such a hypothesis upon hearing of an experience of one of my school friends, who will be kept anonymous for ethical purposes.
