Whether the school is a charter or not matters when the children going to that charter school are there to be focused on because of their previous education and the lower education level they are on. These are kids that need more attention because they have fallen behind. They’re great schools with great results that are public and same goes for schools that are charter. There will always be a controversy between charter schools and public schools but I know for sure that if a student is dedicated and wants to learn and succeed and go somewhere in life they will do anything in their power to make sure they do whether they are attending a public school or a charter
Community colleges serve as a crucial solution for overcoming one's personal hardships, helping get our nation out of the current economic recession, and building an educated society. As a refugee looking for knowledge and self-confidence, who is totally unaware of the US educational system, community college has become a golden opportunity that is available while other 4-year institutions closed the door on accepting me by demanding challenging requirements and high rate tuition. While watching or listening to education issues' debates, one will definitely notice the extreme focus on the economic benefits of having a higher education certificate regardless of any other social aspects. For many students education is the only way of self-reform. Rose emphasizes some of the possible dangerous effects of ignoring the moral and human values of education and explains how it will eventually lead to the loss of the real purpose behind education.
The competition with other countries like America and Germany influenced our politicians to look deeper into the society and solve the social and economic issues that weakened our nation. First the government was concerned about the healthy workforce and better educated future generation therefore, the Liberals passed Acts for children. The first Act that was passed, was the School Meals Act in 1906 which allowed local authorities to provide needy children with a free daily meal. Local authorities were allowed to raise local tax by half a penny to help fund this scheme. This act was passed to improve health and ensure children were sufficiently educated.
With so many public schools reporting failing scores each year, it is no wonder why so many parents opt to remove their children from the regular public school system and place them in public schools. However, as appealing as charter schools may seem, they are not always the best solution. Charter school systems have caused harm to public school systems in that they provide some students with an unfair advantage over others, compete with local school districts for federal and state funds, and offer little to no accountability.
Charter Schools Receiving Public Funding Alfred Bishop Hum 114/ Critical Thinking 01/08/2013 Ann Conway Charter Schools Receiving Public Funding My position on should Charter Schools receive public funding is that they already get some public funding but, they should not because Charter Schools are not any better academically than public schools. Charter Schools are more about business and political leverage than reforming education. My audience could be influenced by misconceptions that they hear such as, charter schools test better than public schools. People hear that, believe it and do no research to find out if it is true. Also, they will not ask themselves are they really doing better.
Yes, foreign languages should be required in schools because they improve your likely hood of getting into college, and teaching languages in schools helps to widen the variety of jobs we can get and how we preform in them. “The foreign language department is one of the first programs that are cut due to budget shrinks in American Public Schools” (Staff Writers). With the lack of knowledge in our language department, we as a country are also lacking the opportunity to create jobs and improve our chances of getting a good education. “In general, competitive colleges require at least two years of foreign language classes in high school” (Grove) Which means that if colleges are requiring it, our schools should be teaching it in order for the students to get the best education possible in the long run. “An estimated 60,000 American students study Chinese, compared to 200 million Chinese students studying English.
POSITION PAPER: HOMESCHOOLING VS PUBLIC EDUCATION 1 Position Paper: Homeschooling vs Public School Marilyn Ali ENGL 112 Professor Tschetter DeVry University June 25th, 2013 POSITION PAPER: HOMESCHOOLING VS PUBLIC EDUCATION 2 Homeschooling vs Public Education Homeschooling has become a popular alternative to the traditional public school system. Homeschooling provides children with a safe environment, and it helps to bring the family closer together. Typically, homeschooled children score higher than public school children do on standardized achievement tests, and above average on college entrance exams. Critics feel that schooling children at home is not a viable form of education, contrary to their belief, home-schooling does seem to have its benefits. Home-schooled children tend to have much closer family relationships, a better sense of self-esteem, and homeschooling seems to provide a better education than public schools do.
Mario Escobedo English 35 September 5, 2012 Success is achieving what you have set out to do, an accomplishment. Lately students have lacked success in education. I believe with the right motivation, being around positive people, and being organized can really determine a student from being successful or dropping out. Although there are many strategies, without incorporating these three methods, students will most likely not achieve success in education. First of all every student needs a motivation to get a higher education after high school, but the question is how are students going to stay motivated throughout the semester?
Just the ones that really strive for it and want a better education. However, there are a lot of students out there that want a good education to be able to get a good-paying job after high school and college. But at the same time, there are students who just want to do what they have to and no more, by that I mean they just want to graduate with passing grades and possibly go to college. But overall, I feel that it would not completely increase education levels of all schools. Noemi Donoso, the new Chicago Public School’s chief education officer, said “Just extending a school day doesn’t mean, by itself, that you’re going to have high-performing schools.
Standardized Testing Should Not Be Terminated… Standardized testing such as The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), its replacement, the STAAR should not be completely terminated in Texas schools. TAKS has failed to produce an appreciably larger percentage of better-prepared Texas high school graduates, which is either the fault of the student’s taking them or the teachers aren’t doing a very good job of teaching them what they need to know. This type of testing is important and it is needed in order for seniors to graduate (Copyright Texas Education Agency (TEA)).Without it, it just makes graduating easier for seniors, and isn’t the point of our entire education to be anything but easy? “TAKS assessments are designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and are able to apply the defined knowledge and skills at each tested grade level graduate” (Copyright Texas Education Agency (TEA)). Students need to pass the English, social studies, math and science portion of the test to graduate (Copyright Texas Education Agency (TEA)).
