Courtney Government Period 6 Choose Your Party Republicans are generally a conservative party. The main color for this political is red and the symbol of an elephant. They are most opposite of the Democratic Party. Republicans generally take the more conservative stance on political issues while democrats normally take the liberal side. Most Republicans favor lower taxes and less government spending on social programs. The less government intervention in business and the economy is for the better. There are many things that a republican stands for. Republicans support a common sense of health care that will lower costs and preserve quality. The courts should demonstrate fidelity to the United States Constitution. We believe the judicial system is the base of ruling the law. Liberals believe the necessary steps when a crime is committed include first to protect the victims’ rights, end probation, get tough on real crime, protect the right of self-defense, and lastly to address the root causes of crime. However, democrats are committed to many other things. A few ways include protecting voting rights, prohibiting discrimination based on sex (which republicans do not agree with), repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” method, ensuring civil rights, ending racial and religious discrimination, and having a fair and equitable criminal justice system. In conclusion, Republicans disagree with most of the views of Democrats and Liberals. Democrats are more liberal and Republicans are more of a conservative party. I favor lower taxes and less government intervention, therefore, I consider myself a Republican among the political spectrum. Democrats are considered more of the party of the people.
