Promoting Healthier Lifestyles in Schools

(Insert school district here) is encouraging every school to promote healthy lifestyles for students and staff. As a student at (insert school here), I feel as if there are many improvements to be made. For example, there is trash in the stairwells, lunches that can be healthier, and not enough programs to raise awareness for living a healthy life. One of the improvements that can be made is trash in the stairwells. In order to solve this problem, (insert school) could start putting trashcans in the stairwells. This gives students and staff an opportunity to throw their trash away where it is convenient for them. This also teaches students the habit of throwing their trash away and not throwing it on the ground. Another problem I've noticed is the lunches at school aren't exactly healthy. But when they are, there's temptation to skip going through the lunch line, and going to the vending machines filled with unhealthy alternatives instead. To solve this, I thought that the school could replace the unhealthy snacks in the vending machine with healthier alternatives such as veggie chips. Also, the lunches could be improved. For example, the fried chicken can become grilled chicken instead. Another way to encourage healthy lifestyles is to have more programs to encourage students to be healthy, and to teach them the consequences if they are not. The problem with kids today, is we don't know all of the consequences of being unhealthy. We know it's bad, but what's so bad about it except getting fat? This is obviously an issue that needs resolving. All in all, I think it's great that (insert school district) is encouraging schools to promote healthier lifestyles. These are just a few ideas that I hope they take into consideration. Trash cans in the stairwells, healthier lunches, and programs to raise awareness of healthy living are all great ways to
