Preschool Music Lesson This class was a little off the beaten path for me, in the sense that I know nothing about early childhood education, but I learned a lot from it. It seemed tedious having to sit through this, but I now understand that even though I can’t teach young kids, I need to understand where musical careers begin…and that’s when you are young. I feel like I always hear about how important it is to educate kids on music while they are still young, and this class helped me understand why. It’s vital for kids to be exposed to music at a young age because this is when their minds are forming and when they will get the tools to flourish musically in the future. I noticed that several of the kids seemed to be rebels. They were just looking around and didn’t seem to be paying attention. As Mrs. Smith said in the past and as I saw in this class was that even though kids might not seem like they are listening, they are sometimes taking it in without even noticing. For example, during the clapping song at the end, one kid was just crawling around obviously not paying attention, yet after the class I saw him singing and clapping to the song that he hadn’t even been participating in earlier. I think that’s why the education of children is often put on the back burner because we think that they don’t comprehend anything, but in reality, they are absorbing a lot. The objective of Mrs. Smith seemed simply to engage the kids in activities. She was very confident in her teaching methods, therefore making her successful. She stayed on their level, while also pushing them to be more musically active. Her styles of teaching are extremely engaging and ultimately very successful. A lot of the activities seemed to be very beneficial. While they seem easy and boring to people of high musical achievement, the activities suited these young musicians well. Each
