1. The managerial functions of planning, organizing, motivating , and controlling are central to the management process. Describe what each function involves and give an example of each. * Planning- involves setting goals and objectives for the organization and developing “work maps” showing how these goals and objectives are to be accomplished. Once plans have been made, organizing becomes meaningful. * An example is developing a financial management and budget plan * Organizing- involves bringing together resources—people, capital, and equipment—in the most effective way to accomplish the goals. Organizing involves the integration of resources. * An example is hiring the right person to perform the job as it is designed in the job description * Motivating- plays a significant role in determining the level of performance of employees, which, in turn, influences how effectively the organizational goals will be met. * An example is rewarding individuals for exceeding their job expectations * Controlling- : involves feedback of results and follow-up to compare accomplishments with plans and to make appropriate adjustments where outcomes have deviated from expectations. * Examples are direct supervision, formal planning reviews, and approvals on proposals for expenditures 2.
