Personal Profile I am a naturally caring and understanding individual who loves to learn new things and to challenge myself to be the best at what I do. When I was at Primary School age, two of my Grandparents were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I became very interested in the Care Sector as I wanted to learn how I could support and comfort them the best I could, no matter how small or large the detail. As I reached Year 9 in secondary school, I felt strongly that Health and Social Care was the career path I wanted to choose, so when I chose my options to study at GCSE level, the main option was Health and Social Care. Unfortunately, shortly after beginning my studies in my chosen subjects, I left School to care for my Mother, who had a number of both Physical and Mental Health problems. For me, this confirmed Care as my chosen career path as I felt a great sense of pride and accomplishment from being able to help someone to live as normal life as possible, despite their afflictions.
I believe that I belong to this field because ever since I was a child I always wanted to make a positive influence in other’s lives. Throughout my childhood I felt the need to care for other’s since I know that I have the power and the choice to do so. I have always had this theory that if you have the knowledge and ability to achieve a goal then that’s what you should reach for. As a child and teenager I suffered a few server illnesses and was hospitalized. Being there made me scared but encountering the nice nursing staff and doctors made me feel more secure.
Perspective on Health Care HCS 212 February 13, 201 Perspective on Health Care When asked what interests me about the history of health care I would answer with the statement: possessing the knowledge of personal health information to make informed choices about my health and the health of those close to me. Staying informed on health topics and health challenges make me a better woman, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and one day soon a health care service worker. Having information on health care will enhance my level of communication when I enter the field, but also make me better able to interact with my doctor and other health care professionals on my health. Often my interest in health care is driven by staying current on health issues to maintain the quality of my life or to learn about conditions to help those around me. Having lost a close friend way to young, I am determined to live a healthy, full, and meaningful life.
new ways of working and practices that health visiting would offer. During this week I felt I had stepped out of a job that I was competent, comfortable and qualified for and reverted back to being a student again. My mentor did keep introducing me as a qualified nurse who is currently training to be a health visitor which made me feel less of a novice but in this first week it did almost feel like starting from very beginning. I was welcomed by the team and the other staff in the health centre which gave me a sense of belonging from the first day. The week was very interesting and I learnt a lot about the role of the health visitor and where they fit into the wider healthcare team.
The last of the Work Culture results is ethical. Some of the phrases used to describe this career requirement include; emphasis on fairness, active promotion of equal rights and justice for all and the chance to contribute positively to society and make a difference in people’s lives. I would have to say this is probably the most important of the three work cultures to me. I was an Ethics Instructor for a large healthcare system over ten years ago and I find that I still reflect back on the course material and use it as a roadmap to operate by. I find not only does this describe me from a professional standpoint, but also from a personal standpoint.
Academic and Professional Goals Alan M. Gavami Walden University Dr. Miriam Ross Academic and Professional Goals Currently, I make positive societal change with one patient at a time by showing genuine care and understanding of how they are different with different needs. This is one reason of several that I chose Walden University, since Walden has a keen awareness and teaching on multicultural competence, I find this to be Paramount. Managers in today’s healthcare environment are much more involved in management, planning, cost containment and efficiency, while providing a better work environment for the hospital staff, and better care for the patients and their family. The skills I expect to gain through getting my master’s with Walden University should give me the ability to recognize and understand problems we face on daily bases in the healthcare system. With this knowledge I plan to work toward a more cost effective and delivery system with healthcare provided to the patient population.
Dorothy Orem’s Self-Care Model xxxxx xxxxx NUR/403 January 31, 2011 Jacqueline DePaulis Dorothy Orem’s Self-Care Model Orem’s theory of self-care describes people as “maturing or mature adults that deliberately learn and perform actions to direct their survival, quality of life, and well-being” (Alligood, 2010). I chose Orem’s theory because I also feel that one must learn and perform to direct their survival and quality of life. It is human nature to survive and it is part of that survival instinct that drives us to learn and perform. I see this daily with my cancer patients. Majority of the patients that are diagnosed with cancer and have to receive chemotherapy do not know anything about either or have a misconception of cancer and its treatments.
University of Phoenix Material Personal Philosophy of Nursing Worksheet This is a philosophy of nursing that reflects the beliefs and values of your name Today’s date is October 14, 2010 I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is about caring for others in their time of greatest need. It is one of few professions in which you can go home each day and be happy for what you did. Although you may not realize it, but you have affected the patient’s life in some way. Nursing is about healing and curing the patient’s symptoms of disease or illness. In my nursing class, I learned that doctors cure the sickness and nurses cure the patient.
I hope my educational and career goals also satisfy my personal goals of becoming a successful individual with strong morals and goals, hoping to work with people and work in the field that helped me. As a student, I am strong-willed and hard-working. I am proud of the grades I have earned and the things I have accomplished thus far, especially in a difficult major such as kinesiology. Yet, I struggle to think of how I will ever pay off the debt I will accrue in undergraduate and graduate school. Thanks greatly to the financial support of my parents, I have the opportunity to further my education and achieve my educational goals.
The reason why I want to join Year Up is that I feel that it will give me the guidance I need to further my self for the future. I believe that Year Up is a good program for me and my peers. The reason why I believe it is a good program is because it was founded to give youth the skills an training they need. To achieve there personal goals and to be confident in furthering there education. I am a good candidate for Year Up because I have many personal values that will contribute to the Year Up program.
