It was Bimbi, one of his prison inmate motivated Malcom X to read and write. With the help of Norfolk Prison Colony school, he got dictionaries, some tablets and pencils. When Malcolm X met his prison inmate, Bambi, he observed how Bambi was respected by the guards and prisoners. He was impressed by the way Bambi talk about history, theology, literature. Then Malcolm X was motivated by the words of Bambi and started reading books, with the help of dictionary which brought a revolutionary change in him. Long Quote: Malcolm X claims that the Dictionary is a miniature encyclopedia for him, as it helps him to explore many things around him: I was so fascinated that I went on- I copied the dictionary’s next page. And the same experience came when I studied that. With every succeeding page, I also learned people and places and events from the history. Actually the dictionary is like a miniature encyclopedia.( X,1964,pp.20) This shows his attention and interest to wards learning. Although it took him one day to copy a page on to the tablet. The progress that brought him in reviewing the meaning of words knowing about the history and places make him to enhance his progress step by step eventually completed the whole dictionary.
