Gabriel Silverio December 6, 2012 The Ups and Downs of Phineas In this excellent story A Separate Peace written by John Knowles one of the main characters, Phineas is a very well rounded young man and I feel strongly connected to him. I see myself being very similar to Finny in multiple ways. The first way I am similar to Finny is that me and him share an extreme athletic ability and love sports. The second reason is that Finny and I have very similar personalities and attitudes. The last reason is that I can relate to Finny in ways such as his injury.
Nicholas Carr is giving voice to these concerns. This article is about one skill that he believes is being eroded, that of reading: "I'm not thinking the way I used to think. I can feel it most strongly when I'm reading. Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy. My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I'd spend hours strolling through long stretches of prose.
The story was pretty good. It seemed to hold a lot of the attention of the audience. It was very interesting, because they looped certain things into actual historical events. They threw a nonfictional twist into some actual fiction. It was also very entertaining because they had lots of jokes that kept the crowd laughing and cheering.
The Byrnes, however, are straight, too concerned and conservative. All of actors give an outstanding performances and the script of the movie is quite good too, it wouldn't be a lie to say that you'll feel like laughing in every scene. No matter how rude or crude references it has in it, "Meet The Fockers" is also incredibly funny. You'll be definitely cracking up. It's one of my favorite movies and indeed one of those rare comedies that are funny throughout the whole time and you can never get tired of.
Some being more valid than others, initially I didn’t look into any specific one I just bookmarked all the ones that I had found while using google. Next I went on to a more old fashioned research technique and decided to take a field trip to the library. Using the online search the library provides us with I found several books having to do with both Guatemala and the United states during the time of the coup d’ etat. I started looking for the books in the library and came across many that were useless to me and many that had tons of facts that I knew would be amazing towards the research. Then as I usually do I stopped working on the project and procrastinated to the last moment possible.
All of these things made for an exciting and attention grabbing presentation. Randy Pausch was very humorous when giving his lecture. There was never a dull moment and it kept the audience interested and entertained. He took a serious situation and gave examples to bring light to it. When presenting, he gave both the pros and cons to the subject at hand.
Puck’s speeches show his rhyming skills of making rhymes. He is capable of word-games as well as other tricks. Puck is a helper of his lord who treats him as his best and most beloved servant and in turn, he does what he is asked to do with enthusiasm. If he is asked to go somewhere, he is fast, when he is asked to do something, he is precise. Puck loves helping his master, whom he loves, and he is proud when he is able to do the things he is asked to do.
Cadence Taylor Professor Smith English 101 26 September, 2012 Is Google Making Us Stupid? Society has essentially turned to using the internet for everything, and we are finding it hard to read genuine books, articles, newspapers, and etcetera. Nicholas Carr is fundamentally trying to state that now people are becoming much lazier. He states in his second paragraph that, “Immersing myself in a book or a lengthy article used to be easy.” A long time ago most people would find themselves entertaining themselves by reading books. In today’s generation the only time we ever read is for a class, or something important.
I think the most helpful worksheet for this paper was the communication strategy worksheet. It really help me solved all the underlying questions beforehand so it was easier for me to write my first draft. Once I started writing my draft I found it to be very hard to not make a recommendation. I felt that my first draft was very unorganized because I begin putting more emphasis on other issues. If it wasn’t for the peer reviews, I
Mary Nelson 9/18/15 Reading 54 The first time I was given this essay, so many things were roaming around my head like, not knowing what to write, other assignments, personal issues, including another essay that was assigned to me from my English class. After all the negative thoughts was roaming in my head I realized that I needed to pull myself together and that this isn’t a math class and that I do much better in reading and English except math, even though I’m a little rusty from not writing or reading for a long time. As I was doing research on the topic, I looked up the word Sporadic, the definition of sporadic means now and then. What’s sporadic is immigrants coming to the U.S to experience the American Dream, immigration isn’t just happening now, it has been happening back then too, and immigration will continue to live as long as were living. As Americans some of us take for granted our freedom, our dreams including being equal, and we take for granted achieving goals.
