Writing Pride Jared Drendel College Composition Hanna Holts Warner Pacific College Writing Pride _Finding Forrester_ is an excellent film. It was both exciting and compelling. I can really relate to this kind of film because I enjoy writing, and (like everyone else) I feel out of place around certain crowds of people. The main character, Jamal, was a black teenager who had amazing writing skills and was a good basketball player. Although people were ecstatic about his basketball abilities, Jamal’s true passion laid hidden in his journals. William Forrester is a senile old man with even greater writing skills. Jamal came to William and eventually convinced him to be his tutor so Jamal could further expand his writing abilities.…show more content…
However, when Jamal had to turn in an assignment for a competition at school, he couldn’t resist the temptation. The first paragraph of his essay was written by Forrester. Little did Jamal know, Forrester’s borrowed first paragraph had already been published. Jamal’s teacher, Crawford, was already upset with Jamal for being such an excellent writer. When he caught him plagiarizing, it was to Jamal’s demise. However, William Forrester came to Jamal’s class – the class had been studying William’s book prior to his unexpected visit – and said that Jamal had permission to use the paragraph. Forrester taught Jamal a few different writing strategies that I’ve never heard about before. The most interesting, to me, was to just type on a keyboard and don’t stop typing. Once the writer feels they have come to a close, edit and fix the grammatical errors. This is a very interesting style, and it definitely helps to get the whole truth out without the story being tainted by consideration of audience.
