Live Life With Purpose To make a difference in the world, I believe that hard work is the price I have to pay. For me there are no shortcuts. It is challenging, and I have learned that both “hard work” and “working hard” are required for success. In my opinion, a major key to success is learning to enjoy the challenge and to enjoy working hard at it. By avoiding what is challenging then I’m avoiding what it takes for me to succeed in life. The much tougher challenges I have faced usually had a lot less competition and in the long run had a lot more opportunity. My father has instilled my work ethic in me. From the time I was a born until I turned twenty-one he worked second shift, and at times worked two jobs. He sacrificed a lot of mine and my sisters childhood to make sure we had everything we wanted or needed. He missed the majority of my baseball games and my sisters dance recitals. I will never forget what he told me when I was at a low point in my life, he said, “live life with purpose.” It wasn’t until a few years later that I really understood what he meant. Then one day it dawned on me, when you become driven by a purpose larger than yourself; you embrace hard work out of necessity. Which is exactly what he was doing. His purpose was to be a husband, father and most importantly a provider. At that point in time I wasn’t living with a purpose, I avoided all hard work and thought that my life didn’t matter anyway. I did know that I didn’t want to disappoint my family and that I wanted to set some goals in my life. I wanted to graduate college and get a good paying job. Since I set my goals, I have obtained two associates degrees; I’m working on a bachelor degree and found an awesome job. I found my purpose; it required a lot of hard work to get where I am at now.
