TASK A: SUPERVISION NOTES What is meant by the term “Duty of Care” Ai: Duty of Care means providing care and support for individual within the law and also within the policies, procedures and agreed ways of working of your employer. It is about avoiding abuse and injury to individuals, their friends and family and their property. How the duty of care affects the work of a Social Care Worker. Aii: Legally bound to provide a service to prevent harm or abuse occurring to client’s needs. If an individual has evidence that you have been negligent, you are likely to be disciplined. You could lose your job and you could have legal action against you. What having a duty of care means for a Care Giving Organisation. Aiii: Trained to their Organisations Standards. Ensuring employee’s understand CQC and the definition Duty of Care. Legally, employers must abide by relevant health and safety and employment law, as well as the common law duty of care. They also have a moral and ethical duty not to cause, or fail to prevent, physical or psychological injury, and must fulfil their responsibilities with regard to personal injury and negligence claims. Aiv: How the duty of care contributes to safeguarding individuals. In your role you have a duty of care to raising concerns you may have about any aspect of your work. These can range from inadequate working conditions, poor equipment, poor practise by other staff; to raising concerns about potential abuse cases and situations of neglect. It is your duty of care to safeguard individuals from harm. All employees should report any concerns of abuse they have.
