It also doesn’t make sense to blame an inanimate object rather than the individual behind it and the reasons why gun violence occurs. A gun is a tool, not unlike a car or knife. When a law-abiding citizen makes the decision to purchase a gun, it is usually for the purpose of self-defense. It evens the playing field between a victim and a potentially dangerous criminal. In the story “They Each Had a Gun,” Hannah LaMarca was robbed and assaulted with no way to defend herself.
“Gun Violence in Philadelphia”. In recent years the city of Philadelphia has become a war zone due gun violence. Innocent bystanders and police officers are all becoming the victims. Even though we have the right to bear arms, who will we blame for gun violence in Philadelphia? Innocent people are dying and the guns laws aren't changing.
Jhalan Jackson English Gun Control Guns can be used to harm people, or can protect the life of millions who have encountered a near death experience to a gun. Most people might be for gun control, which can have its positive, but can also have its negatives. People need to realize this is a world a cruel world we live in and the use of guns can also save the lives of many. So, why not protect yourself with justified actions? There are too many guns in the streets to take control of them all, therefore forget about trying to take control of the gun, and take control of a life or death situation.
It is important that violence and gun crime are talked about in films and that young people are made to see the real side of it, because people are getting killed often in events where youths are carrying guns, this often appears on the news. Statistics show that gun crime has been on the rise in recent years especially in inner city areas like the one shown in the film. The two main characters of the film are Ricky and Wisdom who can not break out the never ending circle of gun crime but both for different reasons. Ricky tries to leave but he fails because he feels that he owes Wisdom for saving his life and
Thus, the problem of criminal gun violence is concentrated within a very small subset of gun owners, indicating that gun control aimed at the general population faces a serious needle-in-the-haystack problem.” The vast majority of citizens buying firearms are only doing it merely for their own protection. Criminals are always going to have access to firearms may it be legally or illegally. So the worst thing we could possibly do is to outlaw guns for the whole population. That would leave crime victims utterly defenseless. Gun ownership plays a big role in personal safety.
What does motivate people to kill someone with a gun? There has been many gun violence throughout history. “Guns and Violence” by an unknown author states that “blame is placed on everything from violence in the media, video games, and music to the popularity of gun ownership and what some feel are overly lenient gun laws”. This author believes that the United States is facing a gun-violence crisis. From what I have heard on CNN or FOX News, I also believe that the United States has an unbelievable numbers of murders.
Another subject he spoke about in the documentary was “Why does America have so many more gun murders than the rest of the world?” He spoke of many different possible reasons, but never really found the real reason. This kind of left me hanging. Some possible reasons were violent media, more guns, and availability of these guns. But all of them were disproved. I think the documentary would be better if he pinpointed a reason.
Gun Laws “Freeze, hands up!” Those are the words thought to be heard most when guns are around. But in reality those are just the words used toward criminals after their crimes are committed. What about the words associated with guns used to save lives in home invasion situations where the man of the house tells the thief their armed? Anti-gun activists believe that concealed carry of guns by normal citizens will end up with blood in the streets. The activists believe people will have gun fights over things as simple as parking spaces.
The possibility of being able to wield the gun at a time of attack, may or may not overcome the risk of owning one in the first place. The right to own a gun to defend one’s self, or family, may not outweigh the risk The mass murders committed in the past few years, have been in very public areas, where one does not normally carry a weapon, for self-defense or otherwise. Therein defeats the main purpose of owning one. The school shootings, such as one of the most recent, Sandy Hook Elementary School puts the second most blame, on the fact that such an unstable person was able to purchase not only multiple, but also such powerful weapons, legally(Gun Control, 2013). There will never be a time that a civilian will need the use of an automatic weapon.
Gun Violence Solutions for America The recent tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary school once again brought to the forefront of public debate the role of firearms in our culture. The American culture of gun ownership is one of the most distinguishing features of this nation as the United States has almost as many firearms as people. Enshrined into our national fabric with the 2nd Amendment, the debate on guns and their restrictions is every bit as emotionally charged and hotly debated as immigration or abortion. While law-abiding citizens should continue to be allowed to own guns, a re-evaluation who is allowed to purchase them combined common-sense restrictions would go a long ways to preventing tragedies. Firearm ownership is a long American tradition, dating back to before the Revolutionary War when the forefathers of our nation needed guns on a daily basis for hunting or personal protection.
