To be a leader, you must be able to communicate, leader, plan and organize, train employee and make decisions. Communication is the key to any success. Supervisor must be able to communicate effectively with their team (Supervisor Standards, 2007). The must communicate changes that may arise throughout an organization, how to improve their teams job skills, changes that are made within the company, address and resolve issues that employees may be experiencing with other employees (Supervisor Standards, 2007). To be a leader means you communicate with your team about everything that concerns the team.
Also having a clear understanding of customer expectations and values is essential, as they are important to meet the demands and thus assists the organisation in achieving their personal goals. As well as customer demands and product development, observing and learning within the industry assists in determining direction and avoiding any mistakes. Simple standards that would be expected by me on the ways in which I organise my time and management of all tasks would be my position as to who I report to, what my daily today tasks are and what it reports are expected from me throughout the day. Knowledge would be an impact on me when it comes to managing time. This is because it prioritises me to set my tasks from important to less important.
Think about it. Why should it be someone else's job to make sure you are doing the things that you should to be doing, especially in your work place? 1.1 Explain the importance of continually improving knowledge and practice Professional development is a hugely important aspect in any industry to ensure the success and effectiveness of a business. Managers must ensure they continue to update and refresh their knowledge through, for example; research, training, seminars, workshops etc. in order to ensure current working practices are meeting legislation such as employment laws, equal opportunities etc. and meeting standards such as the care council code of practice and national minimum standards and regulations as set out by CSIW. It is vital for management to be aware and up to date with relevant legislation and information, as it is a part of their role to guide, support and influence other staff to do well in their own roles.
It is important that staff work as a team and give support to one another. Teams take time to work well and it’s success will depend on how well the team is managed, ground rules should be established that will ensure people can work together in most situations e.g. * Recognise that every team member, regardless of their role or status, has an essential contribution to make. * Always ask for advice and clarify anything you are not sure about. * Find out the ways decisions are reached and the team members that should be included.
An outline of what is meant by ‘agreed ways of working’. The term ‘agreed ways of working’ relates to the way an employee must work and the rules that they must adhere to. As an employee you should work in a way that is clearly set out in the job description – this will then mean that you know what areas of care you would be responsible for and those that should be reported to a higher member of staff etc. Bii) Limits of role There are limits of this role as this has to ensure safety of clients as well as members of staff. The job description outlines the limits and if this is not exceeded, this may result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
The mission statement is a written statement that states your team’s purpose and helps to inspire and motivate your team; the vision statement takes this one step further and looks at the desired future for your work team. Having the teams input into these goals and objectives helps give the team members ownership and a sense of belonging to the team. When the team’s goals are set, they need to have a certain criteria that must be met to make them a realistic goal. They must be clear, concise, have a set time frame, and most importantly, be measurable. These goals need to link with the organisations goals and KPI’s to help create a more efficient workplace.
In addition, having both management and leadership are significantly important in any organization that wants to succeed. In today’s management role, one must implement the functions necessary to be successful. In particular, strong leadership is imperative for shaping an organization into a force that serves as a sustainable business advantage. Having a vision, the ability to articulate it, and having the necessary skills and resources to carry it out is a cornerstone of one’s organization. Furthermore, managers should establish the following within their units: valid performance standards; provide adequate information to employees; ensure acceptability; maintain open communication; see that multiple approaches are used.
