Their feelings being hurt by fellow students, also know as bullies. Being bullied can lower ones self esteem to a point of destruction one of the main reasons children are bullied at school is because of the types of clothes they are wearing or not wearing. Some families are not as fortunate as others and therefore can not afford to spend money on expensive name brand clothing. It is noted that some believe school uniforms remove the issue of competitive dressing and help children from poorer backgrounds who would otherwise find it difficult to keep up with the latest fashion trends(McDermott, Patrick). In addition, some school heads believe that school uniforms vanishes social, economic and class divisions and inculcate a sense of pride in students(McCarthy, Lisa).
Random locker checks are not done to torment and/or invade the privacy of the students, but for many other important reasons which include school security. These checks are required because malicious students bring drugs and weapons to school and store them in the lockers. Random locker checks should be made obligatory and done frequently to assure the wellbeing of the students. In the first place, locker checks help increase the safety in schools. Safety is a problem in every environment and especially school.
Children can pick up behaviour and attitudes from adults from around them .For this reason, I feel my appearance must always be presentable and my clothes should be appropriate to wear in a school setting. For example ensuring they are neat, clean, not revealing and professional. In order to set a good example, I would need to ensure that I follow the same rules I would like the children to adhere to. Such as, being punctual, speaking in a calm soft tone, being kind, not talking over others, being aware of people’s feelings and remaining patient. In regards to displaying positive non-verbal behaviour, I would ensure that I do not let anything personal impact my mood whilst teaching, appearing to be focused, happy and calm and making sure that the children do not pick up on any negativity.
SOL WRITING PROMPT PRACTICE Students should not be required to volunteer in their communities in order to receive their high school diplomas. This is because community service is not academic, volunteering is something that a person does if they want to help, not because they’re being forced to, and while some may say that community service looks good on resumes, if everyone does it then it’s not special anymore. Volunteering to do community service is a beneficial activity for the volunteer and the community, but making it mandatory to graduate defeats the purpose. High school diplomas are received based on a student’s academic credits and scores. Or at least they should be, because students go to high school in order to get an education and learn and improve their academic knowledge.
Students should be doing the right thing willingly. If we got paid to do the right thing, it would cause more tension in the school. This would happen because kids would be snitching about every little thing that happened. 8 out of 10 kids are against this idea. Every day kids would only think to go to school to snitch.
Dress codes will not make our schools perfect, but they will help stop gang violence, fashion show competition, and theft. Most of the gang fights are caused by certain colored clothing the student are wearing. Many of the students come to school to show off their new expensive designer brand name clothing. Students can get robbed for the gold, or any other expensive jewelry they are showing off. Dress codes will keep the students more focused on their studies.
Of course, being obnoxious is not the idea. The key is to become a master of communication with teachers and fellow students, all of whom are a part of the school community. Most importantly, those who are outside of the community. I do not want to make Abraham Clark High School sound as if it produces the perfect students, because it doesn't. But the school deserves a lot of credit for its efforts.
Also families are affected by this too, as they would have to buy additional clothing on top of casual clothes for their children. Students are the most affected by uniforms because this takes away student’s individuality. Overall parents and students don’t like the ideas of having uniforms. Parents say it’s not necessary to have uniforms. “Forcing students to wear school uniforms only aggravates their rebellious spirit.” More fights will start over pointless school uniforms.
School uniforms are a great way to maintain the level of social equality amongst the students of public schools. The concept of knowing the social background is avoided. As such, personal biases are not formed and merit is the only deciding factor. It makes kids more likely to treat each other equally; not judging by what clothes they wear. Wearing uniform builds a sense of belonging, ambassadorship and loyalty in the students.
Mini Research 10 December 2012 School Uniforms Does a school uniform really affect a student academically? Experts say uniforms prevent gang activity, encourage discipline, and improve attendance. But, they also say a uniform violates student’s freedom of expression, are a financial burden on parents, and is difficult to enforce at public schools. “A Uniform Look” and “The Role of School Uniforms in Creating an Academically Motivating Climate: Do Uniforms Influence Teacher Expectations?” are articles that talk about school uniforms. The two authors, Yasmine Kalkstein and John Huss, express their thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms.
