Landon Stewart Mrs. Luker Government A4 10/23/12 Cons of School Uniforms There are many schools in the U.S. that require their students to wear uniforms, and there are more that don't. I believe that school uniforms should not be required for a few reasons. Uniforms take away from a person's individual identity and freedom to express himself or herself. They can be costly to people depending on a family’s financial status. School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to.
Research Proposal 1) The issue I am addressing is why schools with children from kindergarten through 8th grade and some high schools need to enforce a mandatory school uniform policy to lessen the theft and violence and bullying in schools. My proposal is important and it matters because innocent students are getting, bullied, hurt, and killed because of what they are wearing and if we enforce my claim then the number of these can possibly go down. This matters to the parents, school students, school faculty, school administrators, and our future generation, because it affects all of us in several different ways. 2) The competing side of my argument is not to enforce a mandatory school uniform policy. They believe that enforcing children and youth to wear uniform takes away from their freedom of expressing themselves and their values.
Every couple of months when tuning into the news, it’s often heard of debates about public schools bringing in school uniforms. It’s often thought that the uniforms will solve multiple problems such as violence, behavior, and safety of the attending students. It is also said that it will help parents with expenses because they won’t have to keep up with the demands of expensive clothing from teenagers today. If your opinion made a difference in the decision of wearing school uniforms at your school, would you choose to wear them or be against the idea? Many high schools choose to have uniforms so that students can focus more on school academics and not in the way they look or dress. Schools try to do what’s best for the student, not for punishment; without all of these rules, what can I school do to help out their students education and future? School uniforms should be allowed because it helps the students concentrate on the work and not what another student looks like or how they are capable of dressing. School uniforms are to be used to limit skin exposure and anything gang related to prevent anything that might harm students or symbolize anything unsafe.
Dress Codes in Schools Kelly Mennillo Com/220 Due: 4/22/12 Kelly Munoz Some people believe that our schools should require their students to adapt to a dress code to improve student behavior, enhance students’ self-confidence, and reduce differences among socioeconomic levels. Others may say that policies enforcing dress codes, or requiring school uniforms violate students’ First Amendment rights, and suppress individuality. The argument over school dress codes and school-uniform policies continue to rage in the meeting rooms, administrative officers, and classrooms of public schools throughout the country. School officials place dress code policies so there will be orderly dressing amongst the students’. Dress codes are important, but they are troublesome at the same time.
No matter how they dress for school, other kids will always find a way to pass judgement and bully each other. For example, kids would tease other kids because the uniform doesn't fit their particular body type and shape. Kids should be able to wear what they chose looks best on their own body. The clothes aren't the cause of bullying, so making kids all dress the same won't stop kids from bullying each other. I believe making students wear school uniforms is taking away their freedom to make choices.
Having school uniforms is not necessary, and there are many reasons to prove why schools should not make their students wear uniforms. The other side might say that school uniforms are appropriate and if their was not a dress code then people would wear inappropriate things. Well why not just draw a line, kids can wear what they want but if it’s to inappropriate then they have to change and get a detention. The principle should just give out a note in the beginning of the year saying what to wear and the lines of the length of the shorts. For the boys they can’t wear their shorts or pants to long with a chain.
Wearing school uniforms greatly reduces the amount of violence that goes in our schools. Next, there are those who would disagree with students wearing school uniforms. It is argued that even though students wear school uniforms they still get bullied, and violence still happens in the school. Gangs target students because they wear school uniforms. They steal and extort money from the students and take their valuables.
Uniforms make it more difficult for gangs to form and make the school a safer place. Schools report that school uniforms decrease fighting and violence that arrise out of arguments over fashionable clothes. Children invariably tease those who do not have trendy clothes.
